Before we were married, my wife and I lived in the apartment block opposite Abbey Road studios. Every morning, without fail, there would be a group of Japanese tourists doing the zebra crossing.
I travel a lot in my work as a magazine publisher and wherever I am, I try to see some live music. In the past year I have enjoyed seeing the jazz-rock of McLaughlin & Corea and the meat & potatoes rock of AC/DC, both in New Zealand; the inimitable Jeff Beck, with David Gilmour guesting at the Albert Hall; the beguiling Eddi Reader at the Cornbury Festival; the forever young jazz blues genius Robben Ford and the equally enthralling guitarist Kevin Eubanks, both in New York City; and the Funk with a capital F of Tower of Power, in Tokyo. Oh, and I took the wife to see Andrea Bocelli.- First Gig
Slade at Earl's Court 1973. Support was the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. The following week a friend asked if I wanted to go and see Bowie and the Spiders. No, maybe next time, I said. Doh!
