ZZ Top and Rick Rubin - A Meeting of Beards

Am I alone among Word bloggers in my excitement over the prospects of the next ZZ Top record, to be produced by Rick Rubin and reportedly involving the Black Keys? http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1...
I have long held them dear but as something of a guilty pleasure. None of my so-called expert pals have any time for them or the hope that they may recover some of their glory, but I have always thought that in the hands of a producer with an ego, their particular blues stylings could once again charm a sizable audience. I am all a twitter at the prospect. The apogee of their career commercially, where they rocked charts all over the world was also a high water mark for tasteful video-making, don't ya think?

yep

i reckon your alone, as well, But hey, what the heck ...enjoy it!

Your not alone !

1. Classic 70's albums

2. Stonking 80's revival

3. Responsible, along with Lynyrd Skynyrd, for my victory in
the last day of school-term Hangman competition (1976)
(Rest of class shouting "Zed Zed Top? Linnyyerd Skinnyerd? There not pop-groups,them!")

It's you and me, kid

I'm with you! ZZ Top. Billy Gibbons. The only man who can play guitar with his tongue rammed immovably in his cheek. The hats, the facial hair, the shades, the lyrics and that phenomenal Lee Hooker boogie.

They're a joy in a world full of indie milquetoasts (I read that in the Sunday Times. What am I like?) and Cowellshite.

A nation should rejoice.

Cowellshite

Can we get this adopted as a collective noun for those X-factored pop-idol buggers that pollute the airwaves currently. "Oh look there's a cowellshite of talentless celebs over there..."

I saw the Top at Hammersmith Odeon in 1983...

and it remains one of the best concerts I've ever been to. They did everything you'd want to hear, and because it was 1983 they hadn't released any complete stinkers yet...

Saw them again 3 years later, and they had lost their grit... they seemed like 'those characters with the beards from MTV'...

Deguelo

Their best album by a mile is "Deguelo" - sadly with no associated classic videos, but you should all buy it immediately.
