"You're not going out dressed like that are you?! Oh, you are..."

Patrick Crowther's picture

I feel it is time we celebrated fashion crimes in all things rockular and popular. So I shall kick things off with Rush...

Do you win a prize if

Very statuesque. A smile can often be redeeming, no matter what you're wearing.

0

0
Patrick Crowther | 17 June 2009 - 9:52pm

Ah, the good old day

"Manowar, Manowar
Living on the road
When we´re in town
Speakers explode"

Actual lyrics.

0
Ola Claesson | 17 June 2009 - 10:40pm

Like Leonard Cohen...

without the poetry.

0
Patrick Crowther | 17 June 2009 - 10:45pm

More actual lyrics...

'Hear the pounding army of the night
The call of metal summons us tonight
And gather we on this site
To behold the power and the might
We wear leather, we wear spikes, we rule the night
Off with the lights, hear the screams
See the banging heads awaken to their dreams.
The sound of metal so loud it cracks the beams
Played by warriors called the Metal Kings.'

Beautiful. Just beautiful.

ALL MEN PLAY ON TEN*

0
el hombre malo | 17 June 2009 - 10:58pm

Here's a game

Spot who plays what. I genuinely don't know, so here's a guess: moustache man is the drummer, the guy on the right with the awesome pecs is the singer. Shorty on the left must be the bass player, which just leaves the Nigel Tufnell looky-likey second from the right as the guitarist. Am I right?

0
Klaus Joynson | 18 June 2009 - 12:17am

Scary

that was only taken last week.

A mate of mine actually bought a Manowar album where all the sleeve notes were in runic. All I can ask is, ffs WHY?

0
illuminatus | 18 June 2009 - 7:24pm

So, was I right?

Who plays what then?

0
Klaus Joynson | 19 June 2009 - 1:43am

And then there was this...

Photobucket

0
Gauntlet | 17 June 2009 - 10:02pm

Paul Revere & The Raiders

Proof this isn't just a modern phenomena. (is that Peter Beardsley top left?)

0
torrential1 | 17 June 2009 - 11:01pm

Same game

Another round of who plays what. I'm guessing the bloke bottom right is the singer (Mr. Revere?). Peter Beardsley is the drummer, Blondie is the bass player, Mr. Top Center is the guitarist and the top right fella is the keyboardist. I could google the answer but it's more fun learning how wrong I am from you good folks.

0
Klaus Joynson | 18 June 2009 - 12:23am

Here we go...

Somewhat boring outfits in comparison, but the dancers are awesome!

And here they are a coupla years ago... don't these men ever learn?

0
torrential1 | 18 June 2009 - 1:20am

Hmm...

So I got Mr. Revere and the drummer right. As Mrs. Loaf's youngest almost said, 2 out of 5 ain't bad.

0
Klaus Joynson | 19 June 2009 - 1:44am

Not clever enough to post a picture

This was always my fav.
The standout at the time was Ozzy, Miss Braddock my art teacher had the same outfit and she was hot!

Looking now though all four get-ups were classics of the era.

Has anyone got a picture of this band (Containing Gene Cornish - ex Rascals)?

Mind you they did a version of 'Rocking Robin' that p**ses over the original (seriously)

How is it that Crosby is the only one who looks remotely (and remarkably, given the look) cool?
(I know this is nominally about clothes, but......)

0

Awww... they don't look too bad to me!

The clothes are OK... Crosby looks quite cool. The only truly tragic thing about this photo is the strange piece of fur that has attached itself under Stephe Stills' mouth. Oh, and that mouth is full of new teeth.

I am sure that in the future science will reveal that the members of the Bay City Rollers were actually examples of a previously undiscovered evolutionary offshoot of Homo sapiens.

A veritable fright show.

0
Patrick Crowther | 18 June 2009 - 3:10pm

Sadly you're wrong

The lasses of the 1970s wouldn't settle for anything (as I'm sure many of my prog album clutching contemporaries will testify). You've taken the scab off a self-esteem wound that has taken these 30 years to heal. Damn you! You're not a self-employed psychiatrist looking to drum up work are you?

0
Molesworth | 18 June 2009 - 4:32pm

I'm very sorry...

to have lifted that scab of self-esteem and poured a vat of salt inside. Prog-loving blokes were just unlucky... the lasses couldn't fathom that the key to life's mysteries was to be found on Side Three of Tales From Topographic Oceans....
