Your Favourite Rockumentary
Posted by David Wright on 13 March 2010 - 7:22pm.
Whats your favourite rockumentary for a Saturday night? Here's part 1 of mine, although I guess it should have been called a slapumentary. Haven't seen this for years, my original version is on video in the loft. Even if you're not into the music it's quite a fascinating insight into the music business. Also, look out for the youthful looking Word writer! I guess the Anvil film and Spinal Tap are my other two favourites.

Agree that it is a great insight into late 1980s music
I had this on DVD as part of a Greatest Hits CD/DVD package (long since gone to ebay)and it is good to see it again. Thanks.
Slap Happy
I didn't realise it was available on DVD, thanks for the info. Brings back happy memories watching it again doesn't it? Seeing them live in October.
I might be wrong but...
I think it was an extra on the 2cd plus DVD version of the Ultimate Collection.

Bloody Hell
I have barely any recollection of that at all.
You seemed very engrossed at the time!
As Time Goes By
I guess it's going back a few years now and the trip to New Orleans to shoot videos!Their manager Paul Crockford was a funny bloke too.
Considering The Beatles the best band
I must admit to a soft spot for The Rutles.
Do I have to spell it out?
I can see Mark King's house from my bedroom window.
Well. I say that.. my mate Tony, who's sister's kids go to the same school as Mark King's, says that I can.
But I need binoculars because it's on the other side of The Solent.
I'm scratching my head trying to think of a rockumentary I've watched all the way through. There must be one. I'll get back to you whenI think of it.
Julian Temple's Detroit film
on BBC 2 tonight was really good. And it benefited from keeping the explicit musical sections limited, and not attempting to define the way that music and that city have lived together, so the odd interview with John Sinclair, the odd Berry Gordy anecdote, the odd Rickie Hawtin allusion amid a lot of driving around looking at buildings in disrepair. Perhaps it is on iplayer for you lucky people.
Special FX
Presumably you could make the band appear black and white against a colour backdrop using CGI nowadays, or would you need to paint the band blue?!
