Great choice of tune.
Edward Hamilton & The Arabians -"Baby Don't You Weep" ,worth a few quid i can tell you.
Think you'll find these are dancers who are copying the Northen style.
Great Video but Seems a little False. Just old Cynic me.
Now this is how i remember it..
For me the first one
Seems more like the real thing.
The Moloko video could a coke advert.
The reality is that any northern night now is going to be full of slightly overweight fifty something's and that's no bad thing, these people really have kept the faith. If however there was a growing northern scene amongst younger people then that should only be welcomed as should any underground scene that encourages people to explore beyond the mainstream.
wasn't slagging it off
but the dancing in Moloko is really good whereas the second one seems like Dougie Squires' Young Generation going Northern.I agree with all your other points though.
Sorry sour
If I seemed a bit chippy.
And your right, the dancing is better in the Moloko video, it was just that in my, admitedly limited (I'm much more of a modern soul fan) experience, there were never really any black guys or girls at northern nights.
No need to apologise,Art
but thank you anyway.
It's funny you mention Modern Soul because i have an image of that type of all-dayer which is not necessarily positive. Can't get into the music. maybe you can point me in the right direction ? Always willing to give it another go.
A workmate of mine
who at the time was only 22 got into Northern through me and another colleague raving about it. The three of us went to a few all-nighters at various places and apart from the 22 year old I was the youngest person there at the ripe old age of 39. The average age of the people there was as Art says 50 or so. Mostly tubby blokes with cropped hair and button down shirts, looking like Minty from Eastenders and going by the name of Kev or Gaz.
Ha
'Minty from Eastenders' is bang on Simon, with a slight essence of old mod.
Great nights though
I've had some grand nights at all-nighters and weekenders over the years.
I can't remember who it was, David Holmes I think, which would make sense - somebody doing a DJ set at some club I was at threw in a load of Northern tunes in amidst some techno and some drum n bass. Went down very very well.
