Yes Progressive Rock!

CherryHintonBlue's picture

I stumbled on a bizarre album on Spotify today which was made all the more intriguing by the fact I can't find *anything* about it on teh interwebz, other than people (including eMusic, iTunes and Amazon) flogging it. But even they don't have any reviews, making me wonder if anyone's ever listened to it.

The album is called "Yes Progressive Rock!" and appears to be a set of cover versions of songs from "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" performed largely by former members of Yes. It's from 2007.

Can anyone in the massive provide any background to the album? It's not that great, by the way.

No... Yes

The albums in question are the work of Billy Sherwood who was a member of Yes in the 1990s and also produced an album or 2 for them. As well as his own career, bands Circa and Yoso, he does these "tribute" type albums.

They are normally put together with a core band with guest stars from the world of Yes and prog adding their parts. I don't think they are done to "better" the originals but HD a crrtain amount of interest if you are a fan of the musicians or the music.

Of course the other Market they cater to is the fact that they are on sites like emusic while Floyd, Zeppellin or Beatles aren't (there are similar albums for those bands.
