Word Shortcast: Neil Cowley
Posted by David Hepworth on 13 January 2012 - 4:12pm.
Neil Cowley dropped by the office the other day to talk about the Neil Cowley Trio, their new album The Face Of Mount Molehill, his time as a sideman with everyone from The Pasadenas to the Brand New Heavies, his part in the musical career of Sue Perkins and how the best place to learn to play jazz is in your local garden centre.
We liked him so much we’ve put it out as a short podcast on its own.

What a top, top man.
A bright, enthusiastic, funny and engaging musician. More please.
Moo
I knew Neil for a very brief period in the '80's (and the Adrian mentioned was one of my best pals at school). I knew Neil as Moo (Cowley - geddit?), fortunately for him not a name that stuck. We went to the Saturday music school run by Hillingdon borough, and for a short time our break times synchronised. I remember Neil and I laughing loads and eating huge piles of Jaffa cakes. But with his prodigious talent he was soon whisked away to higher places, leaving behind those of us who were just trying to make sure we scraped our bow in the same direction as everyone else. Top bloke. Good on yer, Moo.

Great shortcast and can I just say
absolutely nothing wrong with the Kate Mossman sting at the start. Fantastic.
Listened to this last night
I have to say it is brilliant. Interesting, funny and the man has some talent. Am off to check out his cd.
Edit - having checked out the CD I can heartily recommend it. It's a belter. It's on eMusic for those that subscribe.
