    Mysterious photo

That is one mysterious photo. The veiled reference to my favourite cartoon character, Bullwinkle The Moose, brought back my childhood on the bleak Canadian prairies, making me feel old and sad at the same time. And why is John Hiatt dressed like your Grandad's accountant? Is this the same John Hiatt who once affected rancid leathers as he barreled down the highway astride a huge Harley? This made me feel older and sadder. In fact, I'm quietly weeping as I type this. But I'm sure the "Clarkson in Nashville" anecdote will cheer me up.

    Great photo

I've got it! It was an amateur dramatic production of the Fawlty Towers episode The Germans, with DH as Major Gowan and John Hiatt in the John Cleese role.

Just out of shot: Kate Mossman as Polly and Fraser as Manuel.

    Space Pop Songs

Yes, of course Telstar is up there, but how disappointing not even to get a mention of the Rah Band's Clouds Across The Moon. A classic of the genre, surely?

    Bar songwriter

The songwriter John Hiatt was referring to who sat in a bar writing lyrics was, of course, Harlan Howard, who said great country songs just need to have three chords and the truth.

Cue Sara Evans, who took this advice literally...

    Hiatt ... ain't nobody hia-errrr

Finally ... long time ago sent Mark an email suggesting he get something in the word about John Hiatt ... he replied that it was a good idea ... it has taken a while to get this far. Thankfully the moment has arrived ... John Hiatt is simply quite brilliant. Songwriter, singer, performer ... he and Lyle Lovett together was a storming night in Belfast. Pity no one downloaded it, among all the other downloads that became available. Cheers for this ... and looking forward to the new album already.

    Oh good!

Another member who likes American singer/songwriters. I think there's about 6 of us now.

Anyway...excellent podcast folks and thanks very much!

I like the way J Hiatt uses these different tunings to get such a big sound. Quiet bits and loud bits at the same time....sometimes it sounds like there's more than one guitar playing.

He must be getting near 60 now? It shows in his voice...has done for the 2 previous records too...not that that's a bad thing.

Fingers crossed for Lyle Lovett on the Latitude podcast....he's a bit of a laugh too!
