Word Magazine: New Issue Possibly Delayed By Inclement Weather

Fraser Lewry's picture

ImageAfter burning the midnight oil to ensure the new, John Martyn-enhanced issue of THE WORD made it to the printer on time, climatic conditions in the south of England have meant that distribution of the finished product may be delayed for some readers.

So many apologies in advance, but if you don't get your subs copy as early as you normally do, rest assured we've done everything we can at our end, but lots of snow and a lack of salt have conspired against us.

Looking forward to the new issue

I am looking forward to the new issue however I would rather it was late than anyone got hurt trying to deliver it .

I haven't got the Kate Bush issue yet...

but that's because the Italian postal service has lost the copy my mum kindly sent to me. Che vergogna!

0
Patrick Crowther | 6 February 2009 - 10:33pm

Lost?

With that cover? Are you sure?

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 7 February 2009 - 12:14pm

That's a good point actually!

Yes... it all becomes clear...

Patrick Crowther | 8 February 2009 - 11:48am

No snow here.....

Well there's no snow here, no chance of there ever being any snow (being 3 deg off the equator here in Singapore), but I bet that everyone still gets their copy before me !!!

I know the issue is snow at origin really.......just being cynical.

more likely to melt on the way here

47 down here in melbourne ,bushfires and 14 dead

given you guys up north are freezing your butts off you'd think the weather would be just about right somewhere in the middle

I heard the postman's steps...

...this morning, followed by that spirit rousing thud on the doormat. Amazing how a reminder from the DVLC, publicity material about Alliance and Leicester loans and a programme of South Bank Centre children's events can sound uncannily like the Word magazine. Bugger ! Maybe Monday.

Was that the leaves a rustling?

Or the hinges of the gate
Or Mark Ellen in his snow shoes
Making sure The Word ain't late

0
DogFacedBoy | 8 February 2009 - 4:46pm

Roy Levy, I empathise

In my case it was an unsolicited clothing catalogue for the Mrs. *sigh*

Vogue

I received my Vogue today (am I the only person on here who subscribes to Word and Vogue? Very possibly.), a full week or so after in arrived in my newsagents.

So got that late too, but at least I've got an Inspirational Woman 2009 piece to look forward to, as well as discovering that the earring is making a comeback.

No Word yet.

0
JoLean | 9 February 2009 - 10:05pm

No you're not

I also get Vogue though I'm not a subscriber. I too was intrigued by the fact that the earring was returing, though at the prices of the earrings featured it will be some time before they make it anywhere near my ears !

0
Janice | 10 February 2009 - 1:39pm

Shocked

The earring went away???

0
Davy H | 9 February 2009 - 10:36pm

Earring update

Apparently. And now it is back: bigger, bolder and better. This demands a whole new dress code, I'm told.

JoLean | 9 February 2009 - 10:43pm

Is it clement yet?

I've bought half the bloody music I'm waiting for the reviews of, ye metereologically challenged buzzards......

Is there a review of this young lass? It's on e music.

Hooray! Hooray!

Still becrusted in West Country icicles, it's finally here. First skim reveals two new columns and lots of good looking stuff - from A(lexi Sayle) to Z(appa) - and an impressive six pages on John Martyn. Well done chaps; gold star this month!

0
Gavin Adam | 11 February 2009 - 2:46pm

Yay and thrice Yay!

Tis a bloomin' miracle - I was just reading this message and and about to set finger to keyboard, when AT THAT VERY MOMENT the postie bunged The WORD through my door, where it landed among the sodden boots and final reminders. Well it looks great, fair tribute to the late Mr Martyn, and I haven't even opened the placcy bag yet. But all is well, cos it's here once again, the mail DID get through....

No longer grim up north

Word has arrived in Yorkshire. Praise be!

0
frinck | 11 February 2009 - 6:18pm

Hurrah

A delivery in rural Berkshire. All is well.

0
SirTerence | 11 February 2009 - 8:00pm

And only

a couple of miles from Word Towers it has arrived. I will dig in as soon as the Archers has finished.

0
JoLean | 11 February 2009 - 8:03pm

Happy Bunny

The Word Has Landed!

0
Drop51 | 11 February 2009 - 8:30pm

received today

in not quite so snowy anymore Bristol.

And may I be the first to point out the terrible error in the best movie deaths piece? Patrick Troughton was sorted out nastily in The Omen, and not The Exorcist, as any fule kno.

Good shout on Corporal Hicks in Alien 3, but it's a shame you didn't include Cpl Hudson's sweary demise from Aliens in the best listing.

Lichfield ahoy

The spoke has made contact with the hub.
A very enjoyable read, one that even jitling would like, I feel.
Especially sad tale about Gerry Rafferty, an undersung individual if ever, with way more to offer than Baker Street. Given our RT-philia, the story of the abortive first draft of Shoot Out the Lights, produced by Gerry Rafferty, would make a darn good read. The dicarded version is available in parts on bootlegs and was, in parts, on the limescale circuit. I think he also produced an early and unreleased Linda LP.

Retropath2 | 12 February 2009 - 9:19am

In The Daily Record yesterday....

....there was a little piece about Mr Rafferty.

His ex-wife says that he is alive and well and with friends and family. He just wants to be left alone.

Too quick off the mark with the Word CD!

Magazine arrived yesterday, fine John Martyn piece accepted as excuse for late arrival!

CD straight onto iTunes at work this morning and too soon for Gracenote database! How does all that work? I've tapped in the info off the back of the sleeve and then it says you can "submit CD track names", did so, but not sure if that's worked or not!! BPA sounds good.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think they're in danger of finding the Word CD the only new CD they "buy" each month?

0
Philip Marshall | 12 February 2009 - 12:39pm

It's just you Philip

I'd love to know how to cut back, but there are about 3 pointers alone from the disc that sound potentially essential purchases, and that's before I even get round to listening to the bloody thing.......

0
Retropath2 | 12 February 2009 - 1:04pm

Too bloody expensive

Retropath - that's the thing, it could easily get too expensive! You like the track on the Word CD, you go out and buy the albums they come from... and then next month another Word CD comes around!

I've had to stop myself from walking into HMV or going on Amazon because I know deep down I can't resist. Then there's space to store, time to listen... I tell you, it's a hard life being a music fan!

0
Philip Marshall | 12 February 2009 - 1:56pm

Home for half a day

Just time to pick up the new Word and head off again. Glad not to have to endure another train journey without it.
