Berets n' beards are very 'in' this year*...
so maybe the fashionistas are snapping up his new platter.
That is rather extraordinary, actually. Chart-bothering has never really been one of his strong points, has it?
* possibly
Huzzah!
RT seems to be enjoying his spot in the sun (at least 20 years to late for the Greatest Of All Time in my view). He may be reaping the benefit of a fanbase who believe in buying things instead of finding a dodgy download site.
Any converts should immediately buy Mock Tudor, Amnesia, Pour Down Like Silver, and ... oooh ... lots of others, including the 'official bootlegs' from the Beesweb site 'Semi Detached Mock Tudor' and 'More Guitar'. For some years I have thought that the live albums which are only known to the cognoscenti have been the best of his output; perhaps the live recordings on Dream Attic will persuade others.
Other splendid live RT discs
Celtschmerz (acoustic, mostly solo), and if you can find a copy, the double live Two Letter Words which has acoustic and electric from the same tour (maybe the same gig?) and has some tremendous guitar wigouts
edit: just notice 2LW is available as a download from RT website. It's a cracker! www.richardthompson-music.com/catch_of_the_day.asp?id=1086
Splendid news
By coincidence I'm listening to the demos and it just amazes me how utterly triffic he is. His demos put 99% of other people's final product to shame.
Of course it does slightly take away the personal pleasure of thinking that you have something that not many others have got, but I'll live with that - safe in the knowledge I have tickets to see Mr Thompson and his ensemble in January.
Have any of his
past albums done so? In a sane world IWTSTBLT would have gone straight into the top ten.
The Vinyl crisis apparently
did for any chances of the HHGAFFM hitmakers having any chance of making the charts. Or selling any records, apparently.
While we're at it...
Shoot Out The Lights reissue with bonus live CD ahoy!
