Word CD - idle thought...

tim tunes's picture

Just chucked the latest CD into the mac to import to itunes and it has no track info

Is that because it relies on a user entering the details that then get used as the default by Gracenote or cddb? If so someone could actually put a whole heap of rubbish in there and until some sort of moderator picks it up, track 1 could be called 'wee' by 'Mr.Poo'

Anyway, selfishly, Ill wait till the info magically appears

(Id remember the first PC I got and the amazement when you put your disc in and it came up with the info..glorious)

How odd, I put in the titles

How odd, I put in the titles on Monday afternoon. Tsk tsk...

Dunno how it works

But I seem to recall Mr Lewry saying on here that they always register the tracks for iTunes, but it takes a while before it happens.

Gracenote

We upload the details to Gracenote well before anyone receives finished copies of the CD, but often there seems to be an annoying lag between us doing so and the data actually becoming available to someone inserting their own disc. However, we've been in touch with Gracenote and may have found a way around this in time for the next CD. Watch this space.

Still not Available

FYI - have just tried again and the details still aren't accessible.

I know

There's nowt we can do about it. As I said, with a bit of luck this will be fixed in time for the next CD.

While we're on Gracenote, can the Massive tell me...

... how my Panasonic DVD recorder accesses Gracenote? When we moved house, we took our time to set up the stereo so were playing CDs through the DVD recorder & the TV for a while, and I was very impressed when the TV came up with the Gracenote logo and the CD tracklisting!

Having played quite a few discs now, I think about 90% tend to come up OK, but is it just a database included in the software and therefore out of date the moment it leaves the factory, or is it somehow revising itself over the airwaves? It has Freeview but isn't connected to any 'phone line if that makes any difference. Just interested, ta!

I've tried putting

amusing things in Gracenote in the past and it's never worked, whereas I've done compilation CDs for people, sent the info to Gracenote and it's come up trumps their end.

In other words, it seems to 'know' if you're taking the piss.

'Genres'

seem to be open-house. I've seen all sorts of rubbish e.g. Turkish Folk Music for HJH tracks etc.

Agree about uploading the track names for the Word cds - I always wait until someone else has done it (lazy git!). I often wondered why no-one at Word Central did this in advance - now I know that this does indeed happen. Thanks.
