Winter Wonderland Compilation

David Wright's picture

I'm not one for doing Christmas early, but I wonder if the massive could come to my aid again this Christmas, so I can post off compilations before the last Christmas post.
A couple of years ago, I compiled a Christmas Compilation CD for friends and family and will be doing so again this year. Some great recommendations came in a couple of years ago, so I would welcome any further suggestions if you have any. They can be old or new songs or instrumentals.
Any musical style infact,as long as they have a Winter or Christmas connection to them. Here's a few I included from your recommendations two years ago:

Angels We Have Heard On High-Brian Setzer Orchestra
Just Like Christmas-Low
Frosty The Snowman-Cocteau Twins
Winter Song-Lindisfarne
Jesus Christ-Teenage Fanclub
Valley Winter Song-Fountains Of Wayne
Hark The Herald Angels Sing-Blind Boys Of Alabama
Little Girl Blue-Nina Simone
The River-Joni Mitchell

Obviously, I'm not after any Cliff Richard, Slade or Wizard, but here's the first new Christmas song that I will be including this year. I can't believe I hadn't heard this before, so thanks to the listener who asked Chris Evans to play it on his show tonight.
I appreciate that I could just spend a whole evening searching for stuff on Spotify, but I reckon it's more fun this way and I know the massive will come up with some quality goods again. God bless us everyone.

The Fannies

If you like Teenage Fanclub, how about December from Bandwagonesque?

And are you allowing yourself to include something by The Decemberists...?

I don't belive I've heard that Fannie's track; I suppose I could include Winter from Songs From Northern Britian. I have the first Decemberists album, but still need to buy the second one.

Centro-Matic - Fuselage...

...great song by a great band - to be found on the Electric Ornaments comp:

There are a few other goodies on that too.

Also, there's a whole series of CDs featuring alt/indie (ish) artists called Maybe This Christmas, and an XFM comp from a few years back that has some gems:

I'm particulalrly fond of In The Bleak Midwinter by Lauren Laverne. No, really! It's ace!
