Will Young on BBC at Glastonbury

Did anybody see Will Young's little acounstic number on BBC on Sunday. The boy oozes star quality, and surely deserves more from the critics who can't see past the fact that he won a talent competition. Excellent stuff. Keep it up, young man.

Yes I thought the same

To quick to criticise because of his route to fame but listening to him I liked the cut of his jib.
Apparently his stage set went down a storm.

To be fair

Will Young is one of very few Pop Idol/X Factor alumni who get the thumbs-up from most critics. It's obvious to anyone with ears that he's talented, even if his material is a little MOR. He and Leona Lewis would probably have made it anyway, seems to be the consensus. Not sure you can say the same of Girls Aloud.

Good & Bad

GOOD:
Will Young
Leona Lewis
Girls Aloud

BAD:
Leon (or whatever the winner's name was last year)
Chico
Steve Brookstein
Paul Potts

Anyone else popping up in OK! Magazine either orange or attending an envelope opening

I think

the easiest way to evaluate ya X-factor alumni is if they appear to actually like music. Will Young seems to like singing and music the likes of Girls Aloud etc it seems the last thing on their mind and this shows in the music they produce.

You can see it elsewhere with your "land fill indie" types.

The Boy Done Good

I couldn't agree more. Will Young is a star. His interview on Saturday was great too. His enthusiasm was infectious and it was obvious that he'd had a blast. Take note Shakin' 'I Don't Do Green Door' Stevens.

It won't be too long before he is doing the main stage on a Sunday afternoon.

Great voice

I really liked - and still like - Leave Right Now.

But what has he been up to all this time?

Leona Lewis does a stunning First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.

See, some talent shows can unearth treasures.

I'm old enough

to remember Mary Hopkin, Sheena Easton and the Chuckle Brothers. There must be a side stage suitable for these TV talent performers.

Beany | 30 June 2008 - 10:48pm

Harsh on Barry and Paul

to lump them in with the lesser talented Mary and Sheena.

I Am I Missing Something??

From what I saw it was three minutes of whining* in wellies.

The song had no structure and swerved all over the place, he's only got one voice - nasal pixie whinger. Let's not forget this is the same pop puppet that hooted and honked 'Light My Fire' into a bundle of nothingness. He makes Chris Martin look like Lemmy.

*Whining as defined by Answers.com - it's Will Young

1 To utter a plaintive, high-pitched, protracted sound, as in pain, fear, supplication, or complaint.
2 To complain or protest in a childish fashion.
3 To produce a sustained noise of relatively high pitch

He polished a turd

when he covered Light My Fire.

The Doors were indeed the very worst group to ever walk Earth

Shirley You Can't Be Serious

I'm take or leave The Doors (mainly leave), but hear this tune reworked by Spanky Wilson or (Shirley Bassey) and it's a belter..

This is the Spanky version

Hang on, Girls Aloud?

Go back a step, did someone speak positively of Girls Aloud?

Awful tripe, sounds dated before the first play is even over. It wouldn't have mattered who won Popstars Rivals, they would have pretty much looked and sounded like that anyway. It's not as if they have much say in their career.
