W.I. Woman Mars 'Masterchef' Auditions Outrage
Posted by Remote Control on 24 February 2011 - 10:45am.
Why the hell didn't Elizabeth go through with her error-free, Greg and John-wowing Singaporean duck dish last night?! Because it wasn't 'traditionally British' enough for the woman from the Women's Institute?? (She looked unhappy with it, almost offended by the idea of it, from the outset.)
Complete miscarriage of culinary justice...

On the other hand
my main reason for wanting her to go through was because she was cute, which is unquestionably a much worse reason.
Not at all.
Well.. Not in my book, anyway. She had lovely eyes..
She was (and that may be fuelling my outrage just a little)
but her food looked better presented, more exciting, creative, skilful and tasty (ie. what Masterchef's always banging on about wanting) than those winning, bloody horrible looking cubes of potato too.
I dont't think she was offended at all
In fact she said it was a really 'good dish'. Just cos she's from the WI doesn't automatically make her Mrs Daily Mail.
That said, I was surprised she didn't get through, but she was a bit smug and was clearly furious she didn't make it over the woman who dropped her pad Thai on the floor.
I wasn't dissing the WI, no offence to any WI-ers out there
but it was that judge who seemed to have had the deciding vote and - not knowing her name - I identified her by her supposed credentials.
I simply couldn't see any other reason why this dish didn't go through apart from it daring to be different. It was well executed and apparently tasted really good to John and Greg, who, had they been the sole judges, I think would'd have picked it (adding another, more interesting, chef to the final 20.)
I probably invest too much in 'Masterchef'...
You're not alone, RM
I care about it far, far too much as well.
