Why have the tabloids turned on Take That?
Posted by Mr Fade on 14 March 2010 - 7:56pm.
I doubt many people here care particularly but it seems strange to me that all of a sudden Take That are being attacked by the tabloids for basically sleeping with women. I mean surely they've been up to this sort of mischief for a long, long time - four good looking rich, successful blokes constantly surrounded by temptation - and have hardly committed any crimes.
On top of that (!) presumably the tabloids would have known of their peccadilllos for years, but have only decided to bring them out into the open now. All a bit grim if you ask me. Has someone fallen out with someone?

It's everyones turn eventually
isn't it? The have to fill the pages with something, bit sad really.
I know what you mean....
...but they are middle-aged, conspicuously married men mostly, aren't they?
It's the fact that it's counter-intuitive
that makes it newsworthy (or 'thought of as newsworthy by the tabloids' just to satisfy all you celebrity news haters). If it was Lemmy doing it, nobody would give a damn; it's because it's cute, cuddly housewives' favourite Mark Owen doing it, that makes it news.
Couple of weeks ago their justification
for telling us all about John Terry's John Thomas was that he was the England captain and a role model for young kids. None of these apply to TT surely?
I just find it interesting when you hear of Max Clifford mainly keeping stories out of the papers. Somebody on their payroll not doing their job properly?
I thought pop stars were supposed to put it about?
err sorry,
but who cares?
Presumably the people
who have made comment here. Er, apart from you I suppose.
I don't think they have turned on Take That.....
.....its only one member of the group who's realised that one of his conquests was going to out him by selling her story to the papers. He got in quick, admitted his guilt and he's now facing the consequences.
They'll still be big news and will still sell in big numbers. They don't have an album to promote at the moment so Owen has time to sort himself out.
Aside from all this it does have to be said that Patience and Rule The World are two of the best singles of the past 10 years and they really are a pretty decent act. Hard for me to actually type that, yes, the wife is a huge fan but I do rate them. Good pop band.
It's two mate.
Which is a tidy 50%.
Why oh why
did I not read this first in The Word? Call yourself a music magazine? Tut!
That's it. I'm off to sell an exclusive story to the Current Bun. You had your chance and blew it. Involves Frank Zappa and mudsharks. Should be able to retire on the proceeds. Maybe...
Howard as well??
He's the wifes favourite, wonder what her view will be. Hope she removes him as per PC wallpaper. Disgusting.
He put an
interesting spin on it by shagging somebody elses wife, while the hubby was left at home with the kids. Your wifes favourite you say, are you sure that was yoga she was going to every thursday?
It seems as though
the the amount of approbrium we reserve for philandering stars actually rises in relation to the permissiveness we "punters" afford ourselves.
Reading the OP, I thought...
... but isn't Mark Owen dead? And gay? So why would he be shagging women? How would he be shagging women? And didn't that Jan Moir put the boot in?
But I was mixing up Mark Gately from TakeZone and Stephen Owen from Boy That.
Or was that the bloke in EastEnders? Keith Floyd from the Prodigy? I get terribly confused these days...
