Is it Sharon Tate? She & Zappa (and sundry Mamas & Papas, Byrds, Jim Morrison & more freaks than you could shake joss stick at) used to hang out in Laurel Canyon before Manson came calling.
It is, as Spodify correctly noted above, Claudia Cardinale, and was taken for the October 1967 edition of the American magazine Cavalier in which the Italian screen goddess posed with various members of the California rock crowd. Somebody's selling a copy here if you want one.
Round about the same time Claudia's picture was being used on the gatefold of Bob Dylan's "Blonde On Blonde" (below) but had to be withdrawn from later pressings because permission had not been granted.
HOUSEHOLD NAME? Not in my house it's not. And, unless I'm suffering from one of Danny Baker's gaps in my cultural knowledge, Claudia Cardinale is NOT "at least as famous" as Frank Zappa.
Claudia was and is a goddess at the very centre of the firmament. Rare are the days when I do not recall her startling contribution to the Pink Panther and.......er, Once upon a Time in the West and.....er.....
Anyway, the point is that Ms Cardinale, along with Tina Turner, burned her way onto my teenage retina and has caused chaos in my relations with the gentle sex ever since, at least according to the various Lady Spods littered over the decades.
Have to admit to never having heard of Sra Cardinale before either, can't think why as there was more appeal in a single one of those photos than a decade's worth of Maxim / FHM etc (per DH's post on his own blog).
I'm not exactly eating humble pie here but I've just found out I own one of her films on super 8! Like a lot of super 8 films it's strangely edited to size in my version they cut out the main battle scenes!!
I'll put on a showing at next massive barbque twiggy ale supping and beard stroking soiree.
I've been looking for a while for a single figure to represent the watershed between those of the Massive who more or less remember the Sixties and those who more or less don't. It's now clear that Claudia the Divine is that figure.
For all those unsophisticated and way too young, you should know that Claudia Cardinale was, like, the Angelina Jolie of the Sixties, only way hotter, and if Frank was physically around today he would probably NOT pose for magazines with Angelina, so there...but that's definitely Claudia Cardinale. (Google "Cafe Zappa Budapest" to see another picture from the same photo session).
dunno
but is she saying "yeah Frankie do that chin bite thing again"?
Gail?
Maybe??
Puzzled
And why does he have a Partick Thistle top on ?

Ann Margaret

In an ideal world...

And Frank's teeth
would be at throat height...
Out of sync

Anything over a mouthful is wasted
Well if it's not a Plastercaster...
...maybe Goldie Hawn?
Also looks a bit like..
Madonna, circa Like a Virgin, but surely the chronology vis a vis Frank is all wrong there.
I know...
you said she's not a musician, but that shouldn't disqualify Madonna. (Boom-boom!)
X Factor
Sharon Osborne? And she actually looks a bit like Cheryl Cole...
Patty
Hearst?
Raquel
Welch?
Trick Question!
Is it a man?
is it
Britt Ekland?
A bit ghoulish
Is it Sharon Tate? She & Zappa (and sundry Mamas & Papas, Byrds, Jim Morrison & more freaks than you could shake joss stick at) used to hang out in Laurel Canyon before Manson came calling.
is it
Karen Black ?
Try Harder..
is the clue...is it Bruce Willis before he lost his hair?
Karen Carpenter?
...based on the 'not a musician' clue.
The voice is a musical instrument isn’t it?
In which case Karen Carpenter was one of the greatest musicians in the history of pop music.
Pretty decent drummer too.
Harsh!
Karen was a lovely underrated singer and--little known fact even among fans--a fine drummer too.
Great singer
I agree - lovely voice. Was simply harking back to the old "what do you call someone who hangs around with musicians" joke (amongst others).
I know Geri Halliwell always lied about her age
but who’d have thought she was knocking around with old Frank way back then.
Carrie
Fisher?
Is it Moon Unit?
Could that be his daughter?
Hey does anyone remember a US sitcom from WAY BACK in the day that actually starred Moon Unit (and if I'm not mistaken Dweezil too?)
Susan Sontag?!
Straws being clutched as I type...
Uh... I take it back
Sorry, that actually looks NOTHING like Moon Unit. And I found the sitcom: 'Normal Life.' Along with a cast photo.

The beauteous

Julie Christie?
Certainly at least Frank's equal in the icon department.
Candice..
..Bergen?
Left field:
Carole King?
We have a winner

Is she?
Which household
would you be referring to, David?
Certainly not in my household...
...I've never heard of her.
Literally...
...never heard that name. Rings no bell whatsoever to this 40-something.
Nor to this
30-something.
Fab movie
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Once_Upon_a_Time_in_the_West
One of the best spaghetti westerns (no Clint); but with Ms C
I obviously
Live in the wrong sort of house.
In my house
Claudia was and is a goddess at the very centre of the firmament. Rare are the days when I do not recall her startling contribution to the Pink Panther and.......er, Once upon a Time in the West and.....er.....

Whereas
I'd never heard of her.
She'd put hairs
on your chin...
And 8 1/2
She's not even as famous as..
..Jimmy Carl Black.
Maybe so
But she fills a dress way better than he did
Some proof
May cause overheating in Spodify...
Hot Hot Heat

Have you SEEN..
..the "We're Only In It For The Money" cover?
I have
And for all Jimmy's winsome charm, give me a shufti at Claudia any day
next week random pictures from Islington high street
I see now it wasn't quiz it was a question ?
David has worked out..
..how to host photos.
It'll be a passing thing, no doubt.
blimey
bad loser central. More of this kind of thing please.
Claudia update:

What!?
OK well I've never heard of her. Ever. Maybe it's because she isn't a musician. Or something.
This is one of those moments when I feel like I'm WAY too young for this magazine...
A pre-CC poster writes
I've been looking for a while for a single figure to represent the watershed between those of the Massive who more or less remember the Sixties and those who more or less don't. It's now clear that Claudia the Divine is that figure.
I've head of CC
but I always get her confused with that Gina Lollabrigida - both were in circus films that I remember watching on Sunday afternoons.
who's that girl?
For all those unsophisticated and way too young, you should know that Claudia Cardinale was, like, the Angelina Jolie of the Sixties, only way hotter, and if Frank was physically around today he would probably NOT pose for magazines with Angelina, so there...but that's definitely Claudia Cardinale.
