Who's coming to the Word Bloggers beer fest? Friday 22nd January...

Hannah's picture

Yes, by popular vote, we're meeting on Friday 22nd January in London for a beer after work at the Lamb, Lamb's Conduit Street.
http://www.pubs.com/pub_details.cfm?ID=203

Google map here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=WC1N+3LZ&sll...

UPDATE: well, we've got the back area of the pub reserved for us, although the manager warns it might be a bit squashed... any thoughts?!

Hannah xxx

Again, apologies to all non-London (and indeed non-England) Word bloggers out there... maybe we could have a series of simultaneous drinks round the country with satellite link-ups... :-)

Hannah | 5 January 2010 - 10:39pm

May be tricky

I now have some work that evening. But we'll see.

0
Lucas Hare | 5 January 2010 - 10:58pm

:-(

Ah well, if not this one, then hopefully the next one!

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 5:18pm

Sorry

It'll have to be the next one. Which I know is what I said last time.

0
Lucas Hare | 18 January 2010 - 10:31am

Confirmed! Mine's a pint.

Confirmed! Mine's a pint. Shall we see if we can get some grub? They usually lay on a few butties if there are a decent number of people?

0
Twangothan | 5 January 2010 - 11:49pm

I'll see what I can do...

Manager's supposed to be calling me back on that one. I don't know the pub myself, but you do, I think?... so do we want to reserve an area in the pub (free) or go for the private room option (which is £40, but maybe everyone will chip in £1/£2 to cover it??).

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 5:22pm

It is a splendid pub - used to go there in the past...

...but they are having a laugh charging for a room we will fill with drinkers! Maybe it is a London thing but round here if you bring a crowd you get the room for nowt. I suggest we reserve an area.

0
Twangothan | 6 January 2010 - 5:47pm

Sorry.

No luck, not so much a flight problem, as a getting away at this time of year problem. I'll have a beer by proxy though!

1
Iainso | 6 January 2010 - 1:46pm

Sorry. Too far.

But I shall raise a glass or three in your direction from this beer festival instead

www.alefestival.org.uk/winterales/

0
Beany | 5 January 2010 - 10:53pm

Shorry, jush can't make it tha' farrr.

Promish to raish a glash or three to you all from the shnug bar in my local. Sheersh!

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 5 January 2010 - 11:40pm

Skype

You could Skype in? hee hee

0
Twangothan | 5 January 2010 - 11:48pm

JA in post.

A small package of value etc.

0
Vulpes Vulpes | 5 January 2010 - 11:57pm

Oh Hannah, Hannah, Hannah

Missed me out!

Planning to be there, looking forward to it.

0
Specs_Beard | 6 January 2010 - 12:00am

Hooray!!

Should be a lovely evening, see you there.

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 5:19pm

Great Pub

Once drank in that pub - Good Choice!

0
CharlieB | 6 January 2010 - 12:01am

Ermmm...

maybe.

0
Dr.Pill | 6 January 2010 - 12:01am

Confirmed

Don't mind if I do.

30? Mostly blokes full of beer and pub sarnies? There'll be a new hole in the ozone layer that night.

0
Beezer | 6 January 2010 - 12:02am

Confirmed

I might drink wine - global warming sorted!

0
Theo Zoffrok | 6 January 2010 - 12:19am
Uncle Wheaty | 6 January 2010 - 12:19am

And me

.

0
fortuneight | 18 January 2010 - 1:32pm

Who Are You...??

Living Ooop North screws me up for getting there, but i was wondering how the hell you lot are going to recognise each other..is their a secret handshake or wink??

0
iggypop | 6 January 2010 - 12:47am

I think thirty people in a pub...

....should stick out. Actually, you'll probably find the landlord is shaking them all by the hand.

0
David Hepworth | 6 January 2010 - 7:51am

Surely

he'll be shaking you by the hand when you buy us all a round, eh David?

3
Twangothan | 6 January 2010 - 10:21am

Look for

The Kate Winslett lookalike!

0
Twangothan | 6 January 2010 - 10:22am

Hee hee!!

Although I'm beginning to regret ever mentioning it... because everyone's going to be soooooo disappointed!

So let's be clear: look for the brunette, short-haired, somewhat pudgier, (otherwise identical) Kate Winslet lookalike!

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 1:06pm

I've started growing a beard

I am assuming the others are as well.

0
Leedsboy | 6 January 2010 - 11:28am

I might pass on that one

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 5:23pm

Recognition

There will be a group of us who recognise each other from last time - Luna, Twang, Azeem and of course Hannah. I may well have a copy of Word in my pocket again (logo facing out) or if we can find a table, lying prominently there for a while (hopefullt it won't get nicked again).
Twang may well be on his bike again, so if you look for a folded Brompton bike propped up by the bar or a table, that's another pointer.

0
Carl Parker | 6 January 2010 - 12:21pm

I'm guessing...

...but I'd say there'll be a fair smattering of Beatles tee shirts: some worn brazenly, others lurking behind expensively lined jackets. And maybe the odd CAMRA card will be proffered at the bar? Maybe a unique numbering system can be adopted - akin to the English test cricketers?

Anyway, have a good night.

0
John Medd | 6 January 2010 - 12:25pm

Let's see

how many bands we can represent. I bagsy Little Feat in my "Rock n roll Doctor" T shirt.

0
Twangothan | 6 January 2010 - 1:03pm

I can represent Rush!

[ducks]

1
Specs_Beard | 6 January 2010 - 7:20pm

You could strap some Taurus bass pedals...

to your shoes.

0
Patrick Crowther | 18 January 2010 - 10:30am

Still unpacking from the house move...

...but I'll wear my They Might Be Giants t-shirt if I find it before the 22nd!

1
Hannah | 7 January 2010 - 8:12pm

Decisions, decisions

I've been wrestling in my mind whether to wear Lucinda Williams or Chuck Prophet.
I've decided that I'll be the one with a Lu T-shirt.

0
Carl Parker | 7 January 2010 - 7:29pm

Confirmed

Looking forward to turning the virtual pub real again.

0
Lunaman | 6 January 2010 - 7:58am

There in spirit only.

Bit far to travel.Would love to be amongst you all,if you're ever in the Chester area let me know,we'll have a sherbet or two.Have a good 'un!Pip Pip.

0
Pencilsqueezer | 6 January 2010 - 9:07am

What sort of time are we thinking about?

I'll certainly try to get there for a while.

Martin

0
Martin Simmonds | 6 January 2010 - 10:29am

6 pm kickoff?

Works well for "after work" otherwise it will be "7 ish" necessitating a pre-pint pint somewhere.

0
Twangothan | 6 January 2010 - 12:10pm

Yep, sounds good

I'll be there on the lateish side again, depending on when Mr Husband gets home to relieve me on the babysitting front...

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 1:07pm

I'm thinking of a time when....

I don't have to work for a living. Every new album is superb. Festivals are free again and not the price of an week in the sun. Oh I'll stop now.........

1
Lunaman | 6 January 2010 - 12:21pm

Confirmed

I'm really looking forward to it!

1
Vorgongod | 6 January 2010 - 11:36am

I will be there in mind, and spirit

... but not in body. Living in Hartlepool rather precludes me being able to get down to the 'big city' on a work day - plus the damn tax office impending deadline will have me trapped to my desk (weekends, too :-( ).

Enjoy yourselves!

P.S. Did once meet up with an internet chum, who advertised the fact of who he was by holding a copy of The Word.

0
Reno Dakota | 6 January 2010 - 11:54am

I may turn up

If I do I'll be on the coke (the brown fizzy stuff that only goes up your nose if something makes you laugh while you are drinking it)rather than The Lamb's fine selection of beers.

0
backwards7 | 6 January 2010 - 12:07pm

You won't be alone

I'll be on the sparkling water.

0
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 1:08pm

I should be there.

It's officially diaried. I will be looking for a phalanx of mostly bearded men. If you are not I am bald, rather short and possessing a loud Glasweigan accent. If you see someone who looks like that looking a bit bewildered it will be me...

0
ganglesprocket | 6 January 2010 - 1:11pm

Yes

Confirmed.

0
Richie B | 6 January 2010 - 1:13pm

Count me in

I'm no longer a Londoner but you'll all be delighted to hear I'm making a special effort to get a train especially.

After my last disaster of going to the right pub but not managing to find anyone and hence going home and missing the fun, I may need some help. I'm fairly unremarkable looking and have no real distinguishing features, but if you see someone in their 20s wandering about looking a bit lost and sheepish, it'll probably be me.

Looking forward to it!

1
Joe R | 6 January 2010 - 1:57pm

You should get yourself a t-shirt printed for the occasion

"If Found, please return to the Word Massive"

3
Hannah | 6 January 2010 - 5:25pm

Hurrah!

Trains, planes & automobiles again then! Look forward to meeting this time.

0
Lunaman | 6 January 2010 - 7:09pm

20s...!!

My, that'll bring the average age down a bit then!

0
Retro Man | 7 January 2010 - 6:08pm

I'm not the youngest on this site

but I think I still technically qualify as early 20s :P

0
Joe R | 7 January 2010 - 6:41pm

i'm still hoping

to make it

0
goosefat101 | 6 January 2010 - 6:02pm

I hope you all have a great time

I'll be in Glasgow - a few weeks at home is going pretty well!

At some point soon, I'll fire a flare in the sky to see if Mr Blast and others can assemble in a disorderly fashion somewhere around the Clyde.

0
el hombre malo | 6 January 2010 - 10:56pm

Confirmed

Yep, I'm still in. Still to work out whether we stay over in old smokey or make mad dash for the train mid-flow, but will be there. I'll be the word-bird that doesn't look like Kate Winslet either.

2
kbhr | 7 January 2010 - 5:40pm

I was planning on coming

Should I start growing the beard now?

0
Occam | 7 January 2010 - 7:01pm

*nudge*

just a lil bump to keep the thread going...

0
Hannah | 8 January 2010 - 11:32pm

I've only recently joined

I've only recently joined this forum but already I feel like a regular and look forward to Word Massive updates getting me through a dull day at work.

I'd love to come along but unfortunately I'm double booked.

Have a beer or three for me!

0
Carl Purkins | 10 January 2010 - 4:16pm

I think so...

...want to exchange more Cumbernauld stories with Ganglesprocket and the other Sneck (sorry, can't rememebr who that was)

0
pocket.calculator | 11 January 2010 - 7:52pm

Twas me

and, though I'd love to travel to London for a few pints, the old Glasgow is a bit far off.

0
Con Coleman | 18 January 2010 - 2:45pm

Brilliant!

Didn't realise you were a londoner these days Mr Calculator! Seen this?

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5hmA0lC67agoS2XSN8...

4000 in Cumbernauld alone I suspect...

0
ganglesprocket | 18 January 2010 - 4:44pm

The Bucky Rage...

...is all the, erm, rage, apparently.

I'm attending with my friend D Green, but probably not til 10-ish, as we're going to see A Prophet before. Hope you'll still be there, Sprocks.

0
pocket.calculator | 22 January 2010 - 12:34pm

Hope so

I am trying to plan it around a trip, I'll confirm in the next couple of days.

0
Sid Williams | 14 January 2010 - 9:33pm

Hope the Guinness is Good !

Should be there around sevenish !

0
the mvps | 14 January 2010 - 9:35pm

I should be there for 6

If things go as last time Lunaman & Twang should be there about that time as well.

0
Carl Parker | 14 January 2010 - 9:48pm

Yep

See you then!

0
Twangothan | 15 January 2010 - 8:36pm

Me too

Looking forward to it.

0
Lunaman | 16 January 2010 - 11:41am

Yes

Will wear a suitably obscure Thick Records (Chicago art-punk and SpaceRock) t shirt if i remember. Hopefully the Winter Warmer will still be on.

0
Richie B | 16 January 2010 - 12:33pm

I'm having some logistical challenges

but I have a plan. Should get there for 8:30 or so. You lot had better not moved on by then.....

0
Leedsboy | 18 January 2010 - 10:27am

Will I be the only twonk in a suit?

It's a Friday, and I'm a grown man in charge of my own destiny after all, so I may cast caution to the four winds and come to work in jeans that day.

0
Beezer | 18 January 2010 - 10:59am

Nope

I'll be fully suited and booted too (tie optional)

1
Joe R | 18 January 2010 - 4:24pm

Thank

f**k

0
Beezer | 18 January 2010 - 4:39pm

I'm still coming...

... but I may not make it till about 8.30ish.

Hope you'll still be there

0
ganglesprocket | 18 January 2010 - 12:44pm

You should be fine...

Lee Rimmer said above he's not coming til 8.30, and I probably won't be there much before 8 anyway. So no worries.

0
Hannah | 18 January 2010 - 8:50pm

Thought it woould be good to keep this thread active

As it's happening this weekend.

0
Lunaman | 20 January 2010 - 7:41pm

Dress code

I think you should come dressed as if you were going to go on stage with Sigue Sigue Sputnik! ;)

0
Carl Parker | 20 January 2010 - 10:35pm

Just another Friday...

...for me, then.

0
pocket.calculator | 22 January 2010 - 12:35pm

Bump

beddy bump.

0
Dr.Pill | 21 January 2010 - 11:55pm

Good God...

I can't believe I am actually going to be travelling up to that London all on my own to meet a room full of strangers with funny names that I chat to on an internet forum...

0
Retro Man | 22 January 2010 - 12:18pm

Didn't

your mother ever warn you about meeting strange old men from the internet with what can only be described as "niche" interests?

0
el toro calvo grande | 22 January 2010 - 12:41pm

Exactly...

I've told the FPO that I'm off to judge a Nina Persson lookalike competition, she said fine, as long as I wasn't meeting up with anyone from that Word blog.

1
Retro Man | 22 January 2010 - 12:56pm

A Nina Persson lookalike competition?!

Hey, Retro, let's ditch this "drinks" rubbish, I'm coming with you!

(only joking, of course, I'll be there, looking confused and apprehensive, sometime before 7)

0
Joe R | 22 January 2010 - 1:18pm

I can make it too!

Probably around 6-ish

0
Baskerville Old Face | 22 January 2010 - 12:37pm

Have a good time tonight everyone.

I expect a distinct lack of action on this here Word Forum between the hours of 19.00 and 03.00.

And then some drunken ramblings.

0
Tom | 22 January 2010 - 1:38pm

What about Tweeting the meet up?

A running commentary would be welcome, using a hashtag like #wordmeetup.

Those with Twitter accounts could take part virtually, and those without could at least follow the action on t'Interweb (I think - though not sure if you can do a twitter hashtag search without an account?)

Anyway, have fun,
MillyMollyMandy x

0
millymollymandy | 22 January 2010 - 2:33pm

You're assuming

a level of technical eptitude which we probably don't possess.

0
Captain Underpants | 22 January 2010 - 3:04pm

I'll be along

Hoping a drink or two will cure my hangover. I'll be proudly sporting a Baron of Piccadilly carrier bag (get there before they close forever!) in case anyone spots an (alleged) Alan Davies-alike looking lost…

0
David Rothon | 22 January 2010 - 3:38pm

I'll be in a coat

that's far too big for me.

Just look for a pair of feet and a tuft of thinning hair.

0
Beezer | 22 January 2010 - 5:11pm

I'll be there...

...around half seven, I should think.

0
backwards7 | 22 January 2010 - 5:36pm

sorry to pull out at this late moment

but unfortunately I have to.

I would have been wearing a Belle and Sebastian T Shirt, a provocative thing to do when meeting music fans in my experience!

Am very up for the next one tho so I'll keep my eye out.

0
goosefat101 | 22 January 2010 - 7:09pm

Hope you all

have a fine time.

0
Ahh_Bisto | 22 January 2010 - 7:43pm

Am on way

At Heathrow now waiting on a tube. Yes I have flown in for the Word meet up. Will be the tired looking crumpled man with a holdal full of dirty laundry.

0
Leedsboy | 22 January 2010 - 8:09pm

Turns out I can make it after all.

What time is everyone mee.....

Oh.
