Who Tickles Your Funny Bone?
Posted by Mr Drayton on 1 December 2008 - 3:34pm.
With Comedy being the New Chat Show, and Comedy DVD's taking as much floor space as pop music in the entrance to HMV, just thought I'd pose the question - who's your top comedian these days?
Sean Lock gets my vote everytime.

There's a lot of good ones about
I'd venture:
Bill Bailey
Dylan Moran
Dara O'Briain
Ross Noble
Sean Lock (again)
Rich Hall
Richard Herring
Tim Vine
Lee Mack
The continued success of Michael MacIntyre baffles me though; the man is smug, irritating and just plain unfunny.
Best I've seen recently...
...is Daniel Kitson, by a country mile.
I also highly rate Sean Lock, Brendon Burns and Ross Noble.
Daniel Kitson
Years ago Mark Thomas and Stewart Lee watched Kitson in full swing and just said maybe its time to retire . After years of wishing , I finally got to see him at the Gala Durham , it was a magical night .
Milton Jones is a different type of treat , always a joy .
Robin Ince for a good cerebral time .
Mark Thomas for the joys of activism .
And for the rising stars keep an eye out for Sam Avery , Sarah Millican and Jason Cook .
Jeremy Hardy
No idea what else he's done/does, but I could listen to him on the News Quiz every day of the year and not get bored. Same for the late, great Linda Smith.
Bill Bailey
is great, especially his musical skits.
Jerry Sadowitz
A God amongst comics. I'd also second Bill Bailey and Jeremy Hardy. Harry Hill, who's made the clip show an artform. Mainly though I prefer watching older comedy, Hancock or Python any day over some middlebrow, panel show dross. Hey, when was that curmudgeon attitude a problem with music round here? :)
Some:
Stewart Lee
Richard Herring
Daniel Kitson
Gary Delaney
Will Smith
David O'Docherty
Howard Read
Mick Miller - the old ones are best
Disagree
Got thrown out for heckling him in 1979 in Blackpool and in this clip he's doing exactly the same gags.
Frankie Boyle
seems to have a direct line to the darker areas of his subconscious, having a surreal streak that acts as a neat counterpoint to his gleefully scabrous taboo-breaking. More than that, though, he constantly makes me laugh with astonishment, as he finds gags that everyone else seems to miss. A wonderful, but scary, comic mind. My favourite is still his question in response to the answer "8 women", namely: "What, in serial killer jargon, constitutes a spree?".
I also saw newcomer Rhod Gilbert on "Live At The Apollo", last week, and fell about the place at his beautifully structured tirade about buying bedding. I'll never look straight-faces at a Tog rating again!
I'll stick with...
Laurel and Hardy. Nobody else makes me laugh so much.
I'll Second That
I quite like Bill Bailey and Stephen Fry as well
Another comedy duo
That raises a titter.
Especially the line "Can you do a Mark Knopfler?"
