Who do you love?

Who do you/did you love the most?
So deep was my love for Siouxsie and the Banshees that I saw them thirteen times.
Can anyone better that?
I do hope so.

Wee Jimmy

The Krankies.

Geordies in Wonderland

I lost count of the number of times I went to see The Wildhearts. I once even waited outside the venue all day (aged 16) to collar Ginger so he would sign an ace of spades. I can't, now, recall the significance of the ace of spades.

Niks | 15 April 2008 - 9:20pm

Since 2005

I've seen Nerina Pallot 30 times and Thea Gilmore 16 times.
I really should get out more.

Riccardo Gargiulo | 15 April 2008 - 9:25pm

Predictable

Fairport about 20
Richard Thompson (+/- band, +/- Linda) about 20
Oysterband about 20
Chumbawamba about 10
Jackie Leven, Clive Gregson/Christine Collister, Rolling Stones, Steve Gibbons Band all about 5.
4,3,2,1 Far too many to mention.

Respect is...

...due.

Uncertain....

...but if seriously for me, bear in mind that it is over a 35 year "career": I first saw Fairport (with Sandy Denny!) in 1975, Richard (and Linda) Thompson in 1976 and the Oysters in 1986. Doesn't now sound so much as all 3 are still on the road and all have been seen by me within last 2 years.....

Retropath2 | 16 April 2008 - 7:37am

A lasting regret ...

… is that I never saw Sandy Denny sing (I was 11 when she died), but I've seen Richard Thompson about 20 times and various combinations of Fairport a similar number. I've never seen Linda Thompson though, so I'm looking forward to this one on Sunday: http://www.troubadour.co.uk/programme_view.php?view%5Btype%5D=programme&...
Given Linda's voice problems she may be part of ‘the words' rather than ‘the music' on this occasion, but the mere thought that Linda might sing a Sandy Denny song and I wouldn't be there to hear it was more than I could bear. Either way, it looks like it should be a terrific night out.

Gatz | 16 April 2008 - 8:47am

At the risk of adding insult to injury......

....it was fabulous on that one occasion. It was the Rising for the Moon/Fairport Live tour, with a similar but much expanded set list to the latter LP. I think it may have been the last night of the tour, at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, as Brian "Goldbelt" Maxine, the wrestler, came on for interminable encores, if nothing else to let Jerry Donoghue show off his country licks. I also recall, and there is a somewhat po-faced example, from a french TV show on YouTube to confirm this, that the bass and wah-wah fiddle solos in the second musical part of Sloth went on forever and ever and ever. Maybe they had to allow Sandy time off stage for longer than anticipated.
Linda Thompson live is a fabulous experience too, I think I saw her, with Richard 3x, including once at the Venue, Victoria, when they were without a label or contract, reoundly bemoaned by Richard, presumably between the Gerry Rafferty version of Shoot Out the Lights and the later actual redone release. Don't recall any scrapping on stage, tho'

I used to work in a record shop with a bloke...

who reckoned he'd seen The Clash at least 60 times. I think he liked them.

Patrick Crowther | 16 April 2008 - 6:53am

The Beastie Boys

I've seen them over 20 times probably getting on for 30.A fantastic live Band.
Saw the Specials more than 10 times too.
There's a Guy here in Barcelona, who has a bar, who has seen Bruce more than 100 times and has all the ticket stubs on the wall next to photos of him outside the venue.
He's also seen Joe Jackson over 50 times

paul beard | 16 April 2008 - 9:20am

Europe is very strange (and I live there)

Joe Jackson 50 times? Surely that's up there with the French rating Jerry Lewis as a major auteur du cinéma or the continent-wide belief that the loftiest height of comic endeavour in all human history is Mr Bean.

Archie Valparaiso | 16 April 2008 - 10:44am

Boo Hewerdine

I must have seen him more than 50 times in various guises, the next one being with Chris Difford in Cambridge at the weekend. Admittedly, I used to run his fan club.

Other artists/bands I've seen lots of times (more than 10):
Squeeze
Icicle Works
Martin Stephenson and the Daintees
Gary Clark (various bands & solo)
Clive Gregson (various guises)
Crowded House

and

Frank Sidebottom

The winner by a distance...

is Christine Collister. Since first spotting her in Richard Thompson's band about 21 years ago, I've missed no chance to see her perform, first with Clive Gregson, latterly on her own. I must have seen her between 20 and 30 times, and she's never struck a false note, musically or emotionally. She's a lovely person too, as I've discovered when she appears in the break to sell her own merchandise and chat with fans. And she's reduced grown men and women to tears. The Youtube clips I can find aren't definitive, but here's a pretty good one. I wish she could get a shot on Later. It's not too late for her to break through to a bigger audience.

17 times (1981 - 2006)

The Magic Numbers

I've seen The Magic Numbers 12 times since 2004 and I'm sure in another 4 years time that will be higher still.

You can only really comment if you've seen them, as much as I love their tunes their recorded output suffers through production. It's not bad per say, it just doesn't match their live recordings.

One of the best live acts around at the moment I feel.

I've seen Ed Harcourt quite a bit too, though not double figures yet.
