who are the saddos still here?

PaddyH's picture

Santa's been while we were out the back for a gasper; turkey, veg, stuffing, soup and trimmings done. Computer been banned to the 'office', but using my phone, am I the only sad sack still here? (Listening to non festive Beulah). Who else is here?

Addendum

Sneaked into the 'office'/ 'study' (as GLW was retiring) to say: only have to rub mustard into my beef in the morning and dinner is done. Fnar fnar.
Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year to all.

I'm just about...

to set up a nintendo wii. It might prove difficult after two bottles of wine, and there could be lots of swearing! Happy Christmas!

All

the best. Especially to Humph, DougieJ, Billyous, Markie Chops and all at Word Towers. All I want for Crimbo is a beard and a(nother) copy of Rumour & Sigh

Finished making the first tranche of tomorrow's trifle.

Celebrated the season by watching the first two episodes of a fascinating five hour documentary about the construction of the Boeing 777. Impressive piece of machinery, just not quite as good as my trifle.

You don't get rid of me that easily...

Happy Christmas to the Massive. Drink responsibly.

Patrick Crowther | 25 December 2009 - 6:58am

And to you Mr Crowther

You've bought a lot of cheer to this place this year, so hope you're having a good one.

0
David Cooper | 25 December 2009 - 7:13am

I am indeed...

I am on my own at home reading Jeremy Paxman's The Political Animal with a gasper and a coffee. Marvellous.

Happy Christmas David!

0
Patrick Crowther | 25 December 2009 - 12:02pm

Funny that

I'm sat next to the Light in her deserted office reading David Kynaston's Austerity Britain with a satsuma and a brew.
Unconventional, maybe, but I couldn't be happier at the moment.

0
David Cooper | 25 December 2009 - 12:15pm

You're enjoying it then I presume...

I finished reading it a few days ago and thought it was marvellous. I can't wait to start reading Family Britain...

0
Patrick Crowther | 25 December 2009 - 12:21pm

Marvellous is the word...

And marvellous is The Word - I'd been meaning to read it for ages but seeing it in the mag's round up of the decade persuaded me to buy it. It's one of those books about the past that throw a lot of light on the present. As ever, Mr Ellen and co are the most reliable cultural guides around.

Oh no...

Turkey in Aga overnight for 10 hours. Just got up and it has turned itslef off overnight.

Bugger.

James Helford | 25 December 2009 - 7:13am

didn't...

... that john lennon chap do a song about this?

edit: not meant unkindly, he added, hurriedly ... me eating poached eggs and psyching up for the 175 mile drive to my parents' house. in scotland. in the weather. next post from a ditch somewhere off the A90 perhaps...

Merry Christmas one and all

Been up since 5ish. In the old days that's the sort of time I might have crawled back from a wild night out. These days it's the latest that the kids can bear to sleep before present and chocolate frenzy begins.

Nearly had a teary moment myself as I watched my daughter opening her presents and it struck me how much like my late mother she looks. And the boy putting together a gigantic Transformer toy. He - the boy, that is, not the toy - looks like me and I appear to be transforming into my father as time passes. He's gone too - but suddenly here again. So, the past and present and future merge - in my heart - and in the faces of my children.

Anyway - enough of this sentimental nonsense. Have a great day everyone - but a silly sentimental song to leave you with if I may

Merry Christmas one and all!

I woke up before the rest of the family, to find that Santa's been! The presents are all laid under the tree, I'm making a cup of tea and enjoying the Fleshtones christmas session on WFMU

I've had my best present

2
badartdog | 25 December 2009 - 9:37am

Have a great day y'all

I hid a pressie for the FPO about six weeks ago. It must have been a good place 'cause I really can't remember where it is! It's like the Easter egg hunt already here!
Best wishes to all..........

0
Lunaman | 25 December 2009 - 10:09am

Merry Christmas all of you

In the spirit of Christmas indulgence, after an abnormally responsible and hard working last few months, I had a rare night of sitting up late glugging wine and enjoying shoegazey doom-rock (the forthcoming Bardo Pond reissue, if you're interested!) as the heavily pregnant wife slumbered... thanks for keeping me company, and hope you are having a lovely day today.

Joe Muggs | 25 December 2009 - 10:11am

Merry Christmas dear Massive

The Beatles In Mono (yes!) and some candy for the sweet tooth in the stocking. Altough we (as in us Swedes) open our gifts on Christmas Eve I still have som candy left.

I also watched Let The Right One In again last night. Odd choice for Christmas perhaps, but if you look at it like a movie about friendship it´s beautiful.

Best wishes all!

Needed that recipe for stuffing the goose

Last minute frozen goose sourced at Sainsburys (now fully defrosted). Can't believe I'm checking a music blog to find out how to stuff it - truly, all the finer things in life are celebrated on the Word blog.

(... and Rubber Soul in mono sounded fab earlier this morning - saving the rest 'til later)

Bob's entertaining us here

The presents have been opened and the dolls house built. We've got through 'Christmas In The Heart' and now on to the Theme Time Radio Hour Christmas Special. People are not complaining yet.

I do like this one...Merry Christmas everyone.
