Whiter Shade Of Pale

"A Whiter Shade Of Pale" is ,apparently THE most publically played "record" of "all time" (so far,i 'spose).
The thing i always remember about this track,is the revelation,on some docu' or whatever, that the band's drummer couldnt manage the "jazzy" beat, and it was played by a "session man".
As a one-time "pop" drummer,i always have a laugh to myself.
It's just a slow, basic 4-4 pattern, and,to get that "jazzy" affect,i would say that, all you have to really DO is:
Start each "hand to hand" "fill" with,"the other hand"! Simple as that! Tell me if i'm wrong Billy Bob.

huh!
..just had a "drum" about it,and you dont even have to do THAT!. He really must have been useless. With just a little bit of "shuffling" you could start any of the fills in that song from either hand ,and get the same result, ending in a cymbal.
You *sure* about that?.
I'm sure it was Yesterday.
(edit: now I understand that this article was referring to music played in public places in the UK, rather than radio play)
A Revelation! How interesting that the songs at No.1 and No.2...
in this list (No.2 being 'Bohemian Rhapsody') both feature the word FANDANGO!
We skipped the light fandango
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango
Is there something we're not being told here? Will the inclusion of that word guarantee a monster hit that will be played for decades to come?

Abba in there?
Can you hear the drums Fandango?
That whirring noise you hear...
...is a thousand Google searches for lyrics containing "Fandango" so something suitably witty can be posted.
Fandango
Captain Beefheart?...it's on "Doc at the Radar Station" in
"Sheriff Of Hong Kong" No..sorry it's "Fandangle" ,right THAT makes sense. I mis-remembered.
Bobby Harrison
Original Procul Harum drummer, laid down his sticks and took up the tonsils, for the well-remembered SNAFU. (No, I barely do either......)
Sorta says something.
SNAFU
Famous more for their Roger Dean-designed sleeves than the music therein
It's not much of an honour though, is it?
Have you *seen* the top 10 of this list?
1. Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale
2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
3. Everly Brothers - All I Have To Do Is Dream
4. Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around
5. Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You
6. Robbie Williams - Angels
7. Elvis Presley - All Shook Up
8. Abba - Dancing Queen
9. Perry Como - Magic Moments
10. Bing Crosby - White Christmas
It wouldn't exactly make me proud to be part of that list....
Take the money and run.......
I could live with the ignominy of writing many of those. Often significantly removed from the performer, remember.
Everyone one of that Top 10
is on my hate list. Yawn!
Hate?
How can you hate the Everlys? Elvis?
Not the artists
just the songs.
