While we wait for his back to get better

Paul Bernays's picture

and his tour to be rescheduled, I've been consoling myself with this very idiosyncratic 1/2 hour film of Randy Newman by Jon Ronson. You might just want to as well...

Thanks for this!

I'm sure you know that Randy was on Desert Island Discs recently, played a concert on BBC4 TV last Friday and can be found on NPR streaming a live concert from Harps And Angels. There are also great video links on his website telling the stories behind some of the songs(the story behind "I'll Never Get Over Losing You" is trully heartbreaking)....and playing some of them!!

I hope he gets better soon and resumes his tour(sadly he's not coming to Scotland this time)then gets back in the studio and stops making his fans wait far too many years for a new release.

Questions -

What is the link for that video?
Can I download it?
Can I watch it full screen on my pc?

"Yes Baby, I been drinking".

I got it from here:

http://arts.wowtv.tv/episodes/the-art-show-i-am-unfortunately-randy-newm...

I was searching for it as I'd seen it when it came out. I found it refreshingly different to a lot of rock docs, Ronson's own attachment to Newman and his work permeate the film - things like their shared Jewishness and Ronson's feelings for his own baby son via one of Newman's songs. This would be awful 'worst of the NME in the 80s / think piece / fawning codswallop' except it works and doesn't seem to get in the way. Newman and Ronson have an encounter of an afternoon and we gain quite a lot from it.

Thanks for the tip on the Harps & Angels NPR concert - what a cracker, listening to it now! I reckon you should travel if you can when Randy reschedules - you never know how much longer he'll be doing this.
