Where The Wild Things Are
Posted by SimonL on 26 March 2009 - 11:14pm.
I'm sorry for the source of the news, but hey...
I really didn't know about this, and then I read the following article
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1164214/New-Where-The-Wild-...
The trailer is at the bottom of the article.
And then I found out it was Spike Jonze directing.
And now I'm really excited. What do you think, am I doomed for disappointment? This book means as much to me as The Clash and Dexys Midnight Runners and my Motown compilations.

Excited too....
Heard about it months ago and fact release date had been put back, saw trailer earlier today and not sure what anyone else thinks but I'm so happy they did'nt go the CGI route
It's a kid's book
with about 100 words. Why bother filming it? I'm holding out for Spielberg's "The Hungry Caterpillar"
Genius!
It would make 'ET' look like a hard hitting realist drama! Get to work, Spielberg, you know this is the project to give you another smash hit!
Adopts gruff US voice
In a worrrld before butterflies, where food was plentiful, a small larvae made his way...
Morgan Freeman
You can just hear it, can't you?
As Miles Davis may have said
It's not the number of words, it's the spaces in between them.
And it's a kid's book in the same way that The Beatles were just a pop group...
The book is a masterpiece...
I just doubt that the film will be.
My point exactly.
But "In the Night Kitchen" would make an interesting film.
"...In an interview on NPR's Fresh Air, Sendak said that his depiction of the cooks in In the Night Kitchen (they had Hitler-esque mustaches) and the fact that they tried to cook the boy in their ovens were references to the Holocaust, a subject high in his thoughts especially due to his Jewish heritage..."
There's no doubt that the
There's no doubt that the aesthetic of the trailer looks fantastic.
Personally, I'm quite excited for the film, but I know from conversations with friends that Spike Jonze is a director whose style can divide people, so that may be an issue.
News?
Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O is making her debut as a soundtrack composer for her partner Spike Jonze's new film Where The Wild Things Are.
O worked with Coen Brothers composer Carter Burwell on the film's score, while Bradford Cox of Deerhunter helped her on the songs' initial demos.
Due out in October, the film is based on Maurice Sendak's children's novel and stars James Gandolfini.
An Opera
Oliver Knussen managed to make an opera out of it some years back, so making a film should be easy.
I've never read it though and don't really care one way or another about it.
