Where Have You Been All My Life ?
It struck me recently, probably through some mention here, that I could not recollect EVER hearing anything by Wishbone Ash.
Now this is unlikely given that my formative years, musically, were between 1972 and 1979 and I grew up in this time being a firm Yes /Genesis/ELP fanboy, soaked up any and every influence, moving on to Little Feat and Zappa and beyond until 1976 happened. Secondly, I have a distinct recollection of someone using the cover of "Argus" to roll up on, so I MUST have listened to some of it. However, no memories.
Clearly I couldn't let this go on. I downloaded their newish remastered collection of the MCA years and - wait for it - it's really good.
It's amazing how this can happen. there are probably thousands of artists that have passed me by over the years and I'm perfectly happy in my ignorance of them, but one from my teenage years - that hurts.

Funny you should say that
Only a couple of weeks ago did the same thought occur to me. I asked on Twitter what I should start with and Argus seemed to be the general consensus, so Argus it is.
Only I've yet to actually buy it.
Same thing happened to me with Belle & Sebastian and now I'm confirmed fan.
Argus
I was recommending it to someone at work only today. The remaster is stunning. Buy the CD though not the cruddy download. Well worth having it all.
Me too though I'm younger
so I'm off to Spotify. Will report back soon.
Well, The Ash are not my bag.
Sounds a bit like offcuts from Stairway To Heaven with Bruce Dickinson writing the lyrics. Nice harmonies though.
After exploring Argus,
make sure you take a step back another 12 months or so and have a crack at Pilgrimage; it's not quite so polished, but by heck it rocks along nicely, full of great Wayne's World sing-along-a-motorway-drive choons and that fab twin-lead gusto in spades.
Top tip
Vulpsy, I must give it a go. I mainly know "Argus".
Ainsly, me chum
Welcome to the club. I posted a blog a year or so ago about W.Ash, wodering why such a top notch band were now largely forgotten. Any of the first 5 albums are worth a go (Wishbone Ash, Pilgrimage, Argus, Wishbone 4 and There's The Rub). Subsequent albums were a bit patchy when the original band started to disentegrate, but 5 ace albums is a body of work that not many bands can boast... not even Led Zep.
Angus
?
Is it safe to say
That I first air guitared to 'Outward Bound'?
Inwardly I have never stopped.
