I give you the new Kings of Leon single...

I'll admit to liking the first few Kings of Leon albums. They were an agreeable Strokes mixed with Southern boogie band. Then it all went pear shaped when the 3rd album started selling and the beards went.

I think it sounds
like Deacon Blue. I had a motorway journey today and forced myself to listen to Radio 1 - can't believe the hyperbole they were giving this record.
The only thing as bad or worse than
Deacon Blue is Hue and Cry.
No No No...
...can't let that one go without comment. H&C stuff is smart, tuneful, exquisitely played and erudite lyrically. Generally I fnd that people who make that sort of comment either never got past "Labour Of Love" or get deafened by a dislike for Pat Kane. Perhaps you're the exception (this is The Word, after all, wouldn't dream of flaming anyone)but you're wrong.

Nothing wrong with Deacon Blue whatsoever - great songs, superb singer, talented musicians.
Our Town has got to be one of the best Greatest Hits albums there is. A sheer pleasure.
The old add a gospel choir for some
added authenticity trick.
It's all bit meh if you ask me. Back to the Grinderman 2 stream on myspace for me.
On first listen it does nowt for me,
like Simple Minds meets James. However, I think Sex On Fire and Use Somebody are worth the overplays..they're top tunes. Just because they're wildly popular doesn't mean they're pants. They do more for me than similar overfamiliar songs like Yellow or Wonderwall.
The appeal of
these is completely lost on me, They are the musical equivalent of a Subway sandwich. They're f**king everywhere, they're crap but they serve some sort of purpose but are completely tasteless and forgettable.
I may, begrudgingly play one of their bland, tedious lumpen "tunes" this weekend at a wedding I am DJ-ing at, but only if someone really really wants to hear it and I fear I will die on my arse otherwise. Should the situation arise, I will play one of the ones that has something resembling a chorus. Arse on Fire or whatever its called.
Diminishing Returns
I thought the first album Youth and Young Manhood was superb but they have gone downhill since and have an albatross around their necks with Sex On Fire
No act lost me as much as KoL
I adored half of the first album and every single track from their second. I bought the 3rd and 4th and could barely bring myself to listen to them.
