What's your Icelandic surname?

As I understand it,you take your Fathers first name and apply it to yours. So I would be Brian Hughsson or if female, then Hughsdottir.
Aren't Volcano's wonderful? I heard on the news today that you can actually hear birdsong in Chiswick Park.

Mine would be
Peter Raymondsson. It is rather nice to hear no Aircraft noise at all.Now if only something could be done about Power Tools,Motor Vehicles and drunken Idiots on Fridays and Saturdays it would be blissfully quiet.
dóttir
Sorry to be Mr Pedantic here, but the Icelandic word for daughter has an accent over the o: dóttir.
and aren't women named after the mothers
anway?
And mine
Colin Merfynsson
Only have duaghters
Beanydóttir1 & Beanydóttir2
Iceland's not the only place,
language or culture where patronyms or matronyms have been used by any means - the 60s and 70s could have given rise to a few ben-Bobs or FitzMicks....
The Scottish 'Mc' and Irish 'O'
were originally patronymics, weren't they?
the viking effect still hold sway in parts of England
because they colonised the North east still today people there are statitcally more likely to have names ending in "son" Anderson sandserson etc
James Jamesson
and why wasn't Sally Magnusson known as Sally Magnusdóttir?
Ah Iceland how I love thee
Alexandyr Alistairsson?
No thanks.
Keep on making the best music ever though please. Sigur Ros? Johann Johannsson? Olafur Arnalds? Bjork? Jakobinarina? Mum? Emiliana Torrini? Hildur Gudnadottir? Amiina? Einar Orn Benediktsson?
All so very very good.
