What's your radio favourite?
"She's Gone" by Hall & Oates just came on the radio. And wouldn't you know it sounded absolutely fantastic. Hall & Oates were always a band I liked when I was a kid and my prize possession was my radio. I didn't have a record player until I was about 14 or 15 so my only access to music apart from Top Of The Pops was the radio. To this day there's still a measure of judgement I use when listening to new music: would it sound good on the radio?
So, what's your radio favourite? Not necessarily your top bands or albums, but a song or a band that always make you want to turn the volume up, or put a smile on your face when you hear it/them?

'My Life' by Billy Joel. Just a great pop song!
Beach Baby
By The First Class.
It's the half-a-dozen false endings that I dig the most.
Great video, too. Warhol-esque, even.
And when you wake up it’s a new morning.
Aeons ago, having hitch hiked from Devon to Liverpool on a hot sunny day, I was finally entering the city in lift number 7 or 8. It was late evening, and my ride had the car radio on. As we drove, Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street" came on loud and clear, the sax break coinciding perfectly with our emergence into the main city centre. Oddly, for a song so homed in London, the sheer urbanity of it meant it fitted the occasion perfectly, and now it's one of those songs that I love to catch, at random, on the radio in a car. It evokes big streets, warm evenings and the sense of adventure and possibility that any great city elicits.
Summer in the City
Lovin' Spoonful always makes me turn it up. Even the bass arpeggio with traffic noise makes me grin.
