Possibly controversial, this
I'm by no means a fan of the band, but my favourite song of the 21st Century is... Shiver by Coldplay. I'll probably get slated for it but I don't care - I love everything about it (note: give it a listen, it doesn't actually sound much like Coldplay)
La la la, la la, la-la la...
Country Girl by Primal Scream....
Fantastic Stones/Faces pastiche.
IT HAS A MANDOLIN!
and is great
embedding disabled by "The MAN" at BMG but this is really worth a detour here
As usual, can't find it on the web...
But I'll stick with it: the first song on Maria McKee's album Peddlin' Dreams, Season Of The Fair, is my favourite song of the noughties. To quote maria in another song, am I the only one (who ever felt this way)?
Mon The Biffy
It's a dead heat between...
"Our Song" by Joe Henry, and
"I Dream a Highway" by Gillian Welch.
Both are perfect. How to choose?
Bloc Party - Helicopter
Sums up the noughties for me. And when I first heard it I listened to it on repeat for over an hour. That hardly ever happens. Superb song.
"Never Any Good" by Martin Simpson
(Written as a tribute to his father when he died. Simpson's estranged mother dismissively said that Simpson Sr was "never any good with money").
It just pips "Start Wearing Purple" by Gogol Bordello, and probably some others I've forgotten.
Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling into Place
It's a toss up between
Frank Turner- Long Live The Queen
Girls Aloud- Whole Lotta History
Coldplay- Trouble
The Decemberists- Los Angeles, I'm Yours.
Biffy Clyro- Mountains
and
Rilo Kiley- I Never.

PS: It's nice to see I agree with myself, at least.
Radiohead...
'Pyramid Song'.
Probably.
here is an awesome song and video
One In A Million
This exquisite, heartbreakingly beautiful song from 2006 gets my vote. Makes me sob like a baby every time: I love other "noughties" tunes but I can't say that about any of them.
Easy
"Follower 2" from "At The End Of Paths Taken" by Cowboy Junkies. You can listen to it at their site: http://latentrecordings.com/cowboyjunkies/music/
Coudn't be any more perfect.
