What Presence!
Posted by Fangie on 10 January 2012 - 1:50pm.
Has anyone been along to see the Ken McCluskey curated What Presence! the rock photography exhibition of the works of Harry Papadopolous now on at the Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow?
I had hoped to get along when I was in Glasgow over the holidays, unfortunately it was closed for the duration. It is open again now and runs until 25 Feb.
The website shows a taster of the photos taken in the 80's and it looks as if there are some interesting talks going on alongside the exhibition.
Do someone who won't be in Glasgow a favour and give us a review!

Looks fascinating
This is 100% an article for Word mag. Harry Papadopolous was (Scotland-based) photographer at Sounds and covered much of the 78-84 period of post-punk. Think unseen Orange Juice, Josef K, Simple Minds, Altered Images etc. He is now unwell and his photos were rescued and digitised and are now exhibited in Glasgow.
Thanks for flagging it, Fangie.
Come on then Word
This would make a fine companion piece for the Derek Ridgers article in this month's edition. Balancing the view from Glasgow and the Glasgow hipsters. As I understand it Harry has been I'll and could be doing with a retrospective.

Just went to see it today
and it is so Word-tastic - two large rooms with maybe 100/200 photos mostly of indie bands of very early 80s (from his Sounds days, apparently), with a particular Scottish slant but plenty of others.
Fans of OJ/Edwyn and the Associates in particular are well served, but if you've fond memories of "proper music" of that era then give it a visit - runs to 25 Feb (and it's free!).

oh....
i thought that this was a thread eulogising about one of the most underheard pop songs of the 80's
It is very good
Great pics of a very exciting time, and with a very Scottish slant. There is a huge number of pics of Edwyn from his very young days.
Infact what struck me was just how many pics there were in total - much more than some photography exhibitions. Also some really nice fanzines and covers from NME and Sounds. A real trip down memory lane, and actually a little but futher back than my memory allows.
Pleased to say that it was really busy, so maybe they will feel inspired to do more along similar lines.
Thanks Graham, Douglas
Glad to hear it is a fine exhibition. Just sorry I couldn't make it along myself.
I have DM'd you, Fangie
Check your email.
I'm having trouble DMing you back
