What Makes A Masterpiece?
Interesting programme on More 4, buried in the schedules, but undoubtedly of interest to people here. The presenter finds out about new research in neurology and psychology which aims to find out why we respond in certain ways to film, music and art. The first one was on film, last night was on music, where he attempted to find out what makes a hit, and if he could have a stab at making one. Lots of interesting speculation, and not to be taken too seriously, but fascinating nevertheless. apparently record companies use this research to evaluate potential hits - the automation of A & R. As usual, what is most interesting is what is left out, but good for a heated debate:

Masterpieces?
I always thought Sunflowers by Van Gogh was an interesting painting but maybe didn't understand whatever "It" was about it until one day I smoked some very powerful weed and walked by a large print of it...It literally sprang out at me...all this crazy energy that was so tangible I could almost touch it..and it was only a print! Not sure exactly what I'm trying to say but maybe works of genius tug at us all on some level..some obviously more than others.Maybe everyone that see's Sunflowers doesn't get smacked in the face by it but maybe everyone feels the energy from it and it's stature only continues to grow.
