What lit your fire?
The video below is what really started me getting into electronic music and widening my musical tastes from the Queen, Genesis, Dr Hook and Barry Manilow my parents inflicted on me. Since then my taste has broadened even further, and whilst I love most kinds of music from The Beatles to Bach, Pink Floyd to Pet Shop Boys, Neil Young to Nelly Furtado (err, maybe not that last one), it's electronic music that really got me going.
The extract is from a Tomorrow's World special from 1984. As well as the sequence below, it had Midge Ure demonstrating a midi guitar, and cutting edge sonic research from France. But the bit below really got me hooked on this new type of music and the studio process in general, and has fed my love of music for the past 25 years.
So what floated your boat? What got you so passionate about music that you spend time nattering about it on a site like this?

My elder sister
My sister's record collection of mostly Elvis and Motown singles, her "This is Soul" compilation, Traffic's first album, her worship of Stevie Winwood. Sneaking her 45's into my room and discovering strange little records like "Birds and the Bees" By Warm Sound, "Rainbow Chaser" Nirvana. All this lead to me buying my first 45's and a couple of albums "Pepper" and then "Big Hits High Tide Green Grass" which started me on this long, neverending and expensive journey in pursuit of the musical buzz. Funnily enough I had a second musical epiphany at the age of 26, when punk came along which then opened up a whole vista of music from reggae to African to jazz to electronic stuff and on and on. Now even at my ripe old age, I still love the joy of discovering something new.
A birthday present....
from my nan, it was 'The Sun Collection' by Elvis Presley, although my mother is fond of telling me that I was in love with Dana in the 1970 Eurovision! So, one of those two!!
