What Are You Waiting For?

Mondo's picture

Me - I'm keeping them crossed for..

Bowie to do an album that really is the best thing since Scary Monsters.

The Damned to get the recognition they deserve.

A remake of Fantastic Voyage

A remake of Modesty Blaise

A Green Lantern movie (please be as good as Iron Man)

Stimpy predicts

you're going to be disappointed on all counts

Bowie

1. Outside, Heathen are the equal of SMASC, IMHO.

0
Black Type | 13 March 2009 - 2:47pm

I've picked up both of those

But I tend to listen to his seventies outtakes more than his post-Scary output.

'People From Bad Homes' his seventies album, with the Astronettes is well worth digging out

Soul Journey

came out in 2003, and I've been waiting ever since for a new Gillian Welch album. And this had better be on it, too:

nigelthebald | 13 March 2009 - 2:50pm

what do they live on

air? It has been a long time which could breed disappointment if it's not up to par.

Chris G | 13 March 2009 - 3:10pm

Two things

1) A new La's album
2) A tour from the Iggy and Stooges line up with James Williamson accompanied by a studio album finally pulling together all those songs I only have on scratchy bootlegs - Head On, Rubber Legs, Cock In My Pocket etc

Richard & Linda Thompson to perform together

A serious magazine about TV past and present. But seeing as TV is viewed as something one picks up on one's shoe in this country, it's highly unlikely. Anyone brave enough to start one?

Another compilation from the people who brought us Gather In The Mushrooms, Early Morning Hush and Tea & Symphony.

Modesty Blaise

There was a Modesty Blaise film a few years ago, a straight-to-dvd attempt apparently made so that Quentin Tarrantino's company wouldn't lose the rights to future films.
It's not bad as it happens. (Certainly better than the 4.4 imdb rating might suggest.) It fills in the back story from O'Connell's books fairly accurately, though the 'current day' stuff is no better than middling.

I'm waiting for:

A good 'comics' film. Full stop. I've seen a few that are almost good, but they always fall short for me. For instance, Chris Nolan's Batman films are almost close enough, but some of the characterisation is just a little off. Gary Oldman's Gordon for instance in the first film...way too clownish for my liking.

I want good acting, I want it to look fantastic, I want a great story that isn't trying to fill too many gaps in non-readers knowledge. I want the comics experience I have in my head. Never going to happen is it?

The Incredibles

...was about as good an attempt as I've seen.

0
nicktf | 13 March 2009 - 9:06pm

Inner Space

Wasn't that kind of a remake of Fantastic Voyage?

Ahh_Bisto | 13 March 2009 - 3:22pm

Keith

A Keith Richards solo covers album that's the match of the duets he's done with George Jones and Toots Hibbert amongst others.

Waiting For

Jackie Leven's autobiography, reckon it would be a cracking read.

0
Doug B | 13 March 2009 - 4:11pm

Tom Waits' "Big Time" on DVD

That's what I'm waiting for.

0
Nick White | 13 March 2009 - 4:32pm

Ah yes but

Tom Waits for no man

A Damned Biography

There's a ton on the Pistols, more than is strictly necessary on The Clash - but nothing on The Damned? They only...

Made the punk first single, album and tour of America.

Were booted off the Anarchy tour by McLaren

Almost had Sid Vicious as a frontman.

Were doing psychdelia several years before the 80s revival

Had a major influence on Goth.

Are one of the few first first-wave punk bands still touring

So where's the book?

Mondo | 13 March 2009 - 4:47pm

Damned Biography

There was one that came out late eighties-early nineties called "The Light at The End of The Tunnel",by Carol Clerk. It was an authorised job but quite bullshit free from what I remember.
I think the reason there haven't been others is because there isn't any room for the sociological analysis (ie the usual situationist or red brigade cobblers) you get with the other punk bands.

Roky & TSOOL Return

Roky Erickson to play the UK again (2007's Meltdown show seems so far away)
The Soundtrack Of Our Lives to play the UK and get a full release for the new album.

catflap | 13 March 2009 - 5:05pm

The Move

I'm waiting for the final lineup of The Move to make a new album. Lynne/Wood/Bevan/Price, at Toerag studios, with Rick Rubin producing.

0
Andrew Bradley | 13 March 2009 - 5:20pm

What a wonderful idea

Pretty far-fetched though I suppose

0
Richard Lowe | 13 March 2009 - 5:52pm

yep

Basically power-pop heaven.

0
Andrew Bradley | 13 March 2009 - 5:54pm

Now that

is a very good idea
Which i am now waiting for

0
heathwilliams | 16 March 2009 - 5:35pm

An Iggy Pop Biopic

Every buggers had one - and if anyone deserves a movie made about them it really should be Ig'.

But are Kids Are Alright, Mayor of Sunset Strip, Filth and Fury affair please

0
Mondo | 13 March 2009 - 5:39pm

Be careful what you wish for

One is forthcoming. With Elijah Wood as the Ig.

0
Chimney Singing... | 13 March 2009 - 5:44pm

Surely not - please no

Not the dramatisation - it could go all 'Doors'

Has be to a factumentary (is that a word?) Anvil, Dig type thing

The Dogtown and the Z Boys director should get onto it

0
Mondo | 13 March 2009 - 6:14pm

A Belle & Sebastian album...

...that really goes back to what they're good at - not the terrible 70s soundtrack style that has ruined most of the last 2 or 3 albums.

The new Doctor Who

Not that arsed about Doctor Who but I have a sneaking suspicion that the new one is going to be great. He’s on that Party Animals programme that’s on after Mad Men and which i watch because I’m too tired to go to bed. The programme’s balls really but very watchable and he’s great in it: an odd-looking fellow, nervy and nerdy, unpredictable. Perfect in fact for Doctor Who.

0
Richard Lowe | 13 March 2009 - 5:55pm

I'm waiting for

a month of complete silence.

0
eddie g | 13 March 2009 - 6:09pm

The Thick of It Movie...

In the Loop. Tony Soprano vs. Malcolm Tucker. Sweararific!

0
Cornwall Guy | 13 March 2009 - 6:25pm

more movie comic makes

I may be waiting a very long time before Batman Vs Predator, Batman: The Cult, and the Transmetropolitan series get made into movies

and also, when the smeg will Mos Def finally decide to grace us with his new album, The Ecstatic?

0
badger_king | 13 March 2009 - 6:28pm

The Planet Hulk Trilogy

But they seem to be steering towards that. Perhaps Civil War or Batman:The Killing Joke

And from 2000 AD a decent Judge Dredd or The Harlem Heroes

0
Mondo | 13 March 2009 - 6:33pm

I'm waiting for...

Christine Collister to have a hit single and be on Top of the Pops. You may have spotted a flaw in this hope. I'd settle for hearing her on the Radio.

I'm waiting for another film adaptation of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin novels.

I'm waiting for a CGI remake of Watership Down.

I'm waiting for a film version of Donna Tartt's The Secret History, which has been mooted ever since the damn thing came out. It probably wouldn't be much cop, but I'd still love to see it.
