Just played 'Silk Degrees' by Boz Scaggs...
whilst working on a book of my photographs.
A certified classic Patrick
and Lowdown is one of my all time favourite tracks.
You seem to be on a seventies thang just now?
What do you mean "just now"?
I'm *always* on a seventies thang! :-)
I love Lowdown
Have you heard the version he did a couple of years ago on his album
Fade Into Light?
It's rather lovely.
I haven't, but will now seek it out ...
I do know that Mr Scaggs released a very fine album 'Dig' on Sep 11th 2001, a date which, not surprisingly, guaranteed it would not receive much attention.
Inspired
to put it on myself! Contains perhaps my all-time favourite Boz tune:
(Boz Scaggs - We're All Alone)
The Rainbow by Talk Talk
Just got in from work-1st track on Spirit of Eden.
a Michael Palin audiobook
Right now? A Michael Palin audiobook: Hemingway Adventure
Have you read his novel...
... "Hemingway's Chair"?
No,
I'm afraid I haven't, is it any good?
Must confess I could happily listen to Michael Palin read a phonebook.
Sky Full of Holes
Fountains of Wayne. Much better than reviewed in The Word
go on then...
I've not received my subscription copy and my amazon ordered copy of SFoH ain't landed yet.
As good as Welcome Interstate Managers?
nope...
Not as good as Welcome... not quite as good as T&W either but still some gems on there. I agree with the review that it's a bit same-old same-old.. but of course, it's a bazillion times better than almost all the other trash out there still
Just listened to:
Stiff Little Fingers - Flags & Emblems
(that was tonights sonic accompaniment to the washing up)
'No Sleep 'Til Hammermith' by Motörhead...
was my accompaniment to cooking (lasagne tonight) as it always is.
C'est Chic is my accompaniment to typing this.
Just put on
Souxsie & the Banshees' live album Nocturne, bought at car boot sale yesterday. Sounds blimmin' good so far.
Side four
is the best. Oooh, my mum used to love that. If it's the CD it's "Spellbound" onwards.
Just finished my dinner
So it's Blue Valentine - Tom Waites
been listening to
the Unknown Mortal Orchestra album over and over. lo-fi funk with a southern rock edge. Lovely.
This is brilliant...
...You only posted it 45 minutes ago and I've already decided they're my new favourite band!
Wow
I've just gone and listened to some more. I really like this. Thanks.
immediate
and a grower too. played it almost every day for three months now....
Planet Rock
Nicky Horne and at the moment Sweet Child of Mine by Deep Purple (as if you didn't know). God it's awful!
it's ok
the Jean Genie now. Phew!
Billy MacKenzie
"Beyond The Sun" the voice of the Associates stripped down with minimum backing, just beautiful. Perfect for a cloudy, damp yet warm evening.
still miss him
as i'm sure his whippets do.
I realise linking
to one of my old threads is poor form but you might enjoy this if you haven't seen it already. http://www.wordmagazine.co.uk/content/billy-mackenzie-and-post-alan-rank...
Now it's
Blondie - Plastic Letters reminds me of some great punk days. Always wanted to wear all the punk gear but never had the nerve.
Just spent an hour
making a couple of compilations for my brother, one with an autumnal theme and one of the Temptations best recordings.
Now I'm at random mode, just heard Zombys' Digital Rain and now Single Handed Sailor from Dire Straits is making my toes tap.
about half an hour ago
Four teenagers playing Bluegrass in Mousehole harbour. Double bass, mandolin, banjo and guitar, all gathered round one mic like the Grand Old Oprey on a stage made from old pallets. Very good they were too.
John Prine
listening to Fair & Square
i'm unwinding nicely, after a particulary grim day at the coalface...
Byrds
in the 80's
well at least around my neck of the woods, when starting a band, the byrds were as important as the velvets, the stooges and Big Star. VERY underrated by these younger types these days. What's Happening is AMAZOID.
What he said
"I See You" is even amazoid-er
Always makes me
feel good Bob Marley & The Wailers - Kaya
it's his
sunniest album
Stephen Fry reading...
... Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire.
I know, I know...
Today we have been listening to
'The Half Blood Prince' as we drive around Devon. Fry does a top job. Kids and adults alike captivated.
Monday Night
is spag bol night and as I cooked, I had Peter Gabriel's Passion (soundtrack to the Last Temptation of Christ)on. It made for a great spag bol...
"Komeda" by Leszek Mozdzer
Am currently playing "Komeda", the new solo album by the brilliant Polish jazz pianist Leszek Mozdzer.
A Polish person once tried to teach me to pronounce 'Mozdzer'. I'm afraid I didn't do very well.
I've also gone Polish
Skalpel: 'Quiz'
Some jazz influence in their eponymous album but more trip-hoppy overall. Very nice to work to.
Tommy McCook - Caltone Special
Fantastic rocksteady reissue cut straight from crackly 7" vinyl by the sounds of it.
Includes The Heptones first ever release and Ken Boothe's version of James Carr's "You Left The Water Running" is just the business.
oooh, nice.
Never heard of this album before. It has just been added to my wish list. Nice one, Resting Place. (Burning Spear fan by any chance?)
I Am Indeed!
He's the daddy as far as I'm concerned.
Yep, Caltone Special just came out last month. If you like rocksteady, you'll love it. Although the sound quality of some of the tracks is a bit way hey!
NIce cup of tea
a Cig and then Xtc - Skylarking
Tonight I listened
to the Drums. I didnt like the album much on first hearing but it has grown on me. Track seven which I think is Down to the Water stuck with me and I had to put it on repeat.
This am it was a Lilac Time cd which I picked up in Berlin last week. Stephen Duffy is a favourite singer songwriter of mine.
Can't resist
Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk. Bloody brilliant
For something I wrote tonight
I just listened to all the singles (well, according to the NME) that were released today. A mixed bag, but definitely a worthwhile experience. I can recommend the new one by Battles, if anyone's interested.
This is very hypnotic
George Katsiris - Coming Up for Air
Humble Pie
King Biscuit Hour, recorded at the Winterland in 1973. Good, hard rockin' stuff, but why did Steve Marriott have to introduce every song as though he was testifying in church? Also, please note use of new adjective "motherbitchin'"
(Humble Pie - C'mon Everybody)
Tiny Ruins
Some Were Meant For Sea by NZ's Tiny Ruins. It is truly beautiful.
http://tinyruins.bandcamp.com/
King Creosote
Whatever I have, and pretty endlessly. I really must buy some more, though listening on Spotify the new album sounded like something that should win the Mercury prize but would not be listened to for fun much. I may revise that opinion.
Wild Beasts 'Smother'
slinky blackpanther of an album
The Ramones
Their hits anthology is currently getting me to and from work. I have to think when I get there, I don't want to have to do it in the car as well.
I've got a few
My Morning Jacket's new one 'Circuital' is to my mind magnificent. It has got repeated playing for the last couple of months.
Death Cab For Cutie's Codes and Keys is also superb.
Chimney Singing Cheryl Cole recommended a new Soul Jazz Records Comp called Delta Swamp Rock which is a double and is a wonderful record. Highly recommended.
Another Soul Jazz comp that I have been playing is Chicago Soul which I picked up 5/6 years ago but is one of those great Sunday Morning Lp's
Finally 2 that came on the Ipod yesterday that I forgot how good they were,
Jesus & Mary Chain's Darklands, great stuff &
KC & The Sunshine Band The Best of, the best party album ever put on sale!
Sitting, looking
out the window at the rain to a Laura Veirs -July Flame soundtrack. Bliss
tis
a wondrous record
Highlights of some vinyl I bought at an auction last week
Heavy Weather by Weather Report - great instrumental jazz funk
Aja - Steely Dan - played this over and over again - so good
Bob Welch - three hearts - ex Fleetwood Mac
Also some compilations by Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra
I don't know why.
I have never liked Genesis. I have never enjoyed the work of Mr Collins. Yet in recent days I have found myself listening to this over and over again. I am currently engaged in an IM chat with a good friend who find this unacceptable "hoary, bombastic 80s overprocessed shite". Yet it is currently fascinating me. Who knows why these things happen?
It's a grower
Skying the horrors.didn't much care for it at first but have been rewarded with repeated plays.puts me in mind of great lost 80s band the chameleons.
The Byrds
Following an earlier thread I`m listening to The Byrds - Tymeless Music!
Just finishing off at work
to the strains of an AC/DC compilation. Nice!
just getting ready to head out .....
..... and have got the new Yes cd on...... it's ok !
I was looking for a good YouTube video
of the Richie Havens track "Follow" when I stumbled across this.
(Richie Havens - Going Back To My Roots)
A superior version to Odyssey's big hit, in my view, and that was pretty damn good!
Cassandra Wilson - Blue Light 'Til Dawn
Almost an hour of beautiful, mellow, soul featuring an incredibly meaty bass fiddle, played by Kenny Davis.
Here's the opener - You Don't Know What Love Is
Her best album in my view.
Listening
the night-time noises of Leith, the whirr of an aged PowerBook G4, a creaky typing chair and the splash of McGuigan Cab Sauv as it hits the wine glass
Ronnie Laws - "Always There"
Just popped up on random play. Choon!
Thanks Mike
- that's another 89p to Amazon.
