Can't believe he's still only 31

He was like an old crock playing for Liverpool five years ago

I'm pretty sure I could play right back against him now

Aussies

love a good moan. And that's a back-handed compliment. The country produces such great sportsmen and women, their love of sport seems to be integral to their DNA and set such high standards as default that when the promise and potential doesn't deliver they don't half know how to get a debate going about it.

I remember talking to a couple of Aussie friends after the '05 Ashes loss. They moaned and bitched throughout but they never once hid behind excuses or shied away from acknowledging that England beat them rather than Australia lost it. Aussies seem to know how to channel their frustrations by admiring and respecting their opponents whereas too often I hear Englishmen moan about a loss without factoring in the opposition, no perspective.

While there are elements of truth in that serve about 'Arry

the Australian media has finally embraced football (or soccer as it's mostly called here) by emulating the European hacks in their reporting style i.e. they have turned into a bunch of self important armchair critics who think they could manage the national side better than the pros.

Must admit though, if Kewell or his management tried to get that journo's accreditation revoked it's a low, low act.

Watch this spray by ex-Socceroo turned TV pundit Craig Foster against Australia manager Pim Verbeek after the 4-0 defeat by Germany. Embarrassing nationalistic nonsense.

two questions

1. who the hell is Craig Foster? Should I have heard of him? Talking bollocks like that anyone would think he's world famous

1. a far more important question. Is that Craig Johnston, THE Craig Johnston? But what's with the pony tail. Not seen anything quite that funny for years. Now he COULD play football. Lose it Craig

According to Wiki

Craig Foster was an Aussie footballer, played 3 seasons in England, fell out with Alan Ball. Outspoken seems to be his usual mode.

Yes that is the great Craig Johnston, who played for the mighty Middlesbrough and the slightly mightier Liverpool. And invented the 'predator' boot. And yes the p-tail should go.

The vote from Scotland

Yes, sadly. He played the ball with his arm, as the player on the post and prevented the ball from going into the net. The laws of the game are viewed by some as harsh, but in my opinion the referee applied the laws correctly - red card and penalty.

He was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty himself very early on when he looked to be clattered in the box at the other end.

definately

..a red card. What's the complaint about?

Australia could have won it though even with 10 men. Wonder how Engand would have performed against Ghana. Pretty badly I suspect

a bit harsh, surely?

Is it absolutely cut and dried that Kewell deliberately handled the ball? I'm not convinced he could have avoided it. Couldn't the ref have awarded the penalty and merely administered a yellow card?

The spat with the Aussie journalist would appear to be yet further evidence that Mr Kewell is someone who has made an awful lot of money from football without necessarily putting a whole lot in.

Who else would be in the dream team with him? Kieron Dyer?
