Well, I'm At Work,

itfc1959's picture

Counting down the minutes to 9-20 when I can piss off home. Still, can't complain, Bank Holiday Double Bubble and all that.

What are we all doing, right now?

my bank holiday

Moved the last of the 11 tons of topsoil that was delivered to make a garden . Painted two ceilings and wired a light . Just about to shower then walk down to ASDA .

Are they open?

Thought they shut early on a Bank Holiday. Oh well, you live and learn.

So you 'liderally'...

...made a bank on your holiday?

As in a pile of soil. With grass on. A bank, you see?

I really can't do one-liners at this hour.

Arse-down.

On the sofa, watching Genius Of Britain on Sky+. It's David Attenborough enthusing about Christopher Wren - great stuff.

My GLW, lord love her, is ironing. I would help - honestly I would - but my ironing abilities pain her and she always ends up shoving me aside. (Before I'm accused of unreconstructed male-chauvinism, I do all the cooking and everything else is 50/50).

Like my compadre Mr Blast

I had a regular working day in Glasgow, came home and finished off power-hosing the patio. One fewer job for next weekend.

Just finished a Red Stripe, chilling with "Ella Fitzgerald sings Duke Ellington".

Until I started typing this...

I was reading an Italian book called "Italiani con Valigia" (Italians with a Suitcase) by Beppe Severgnini. I just finished the part in which he's travelling on the Trans Siberian railway and describes the nauseating smell of the toilet disinfectant used by the cleaning ladies. It's a fine book, Severgnini is a great writer.

Right now?

Basking in the warm glow of my just renewed gym membership, after an 18 month lay-off (or, perhaps, laze-off might be a better term...)

Now, getting down to actually using it is another matter, of course...

Currently reading the Word Blog, thinking about catching up with a bit of TV.
Sounds:'Our New Orleans' benefit record on Spotify - I really must buy this, as it is brilliant & getting it for nothing makes the whole 'benefit' concept rather redundant...

It is here if you'd care to check it out... http://open.spotify.com/user/doublevisionary/playlist/3OeCqGVvgklpAo2Wcl...

Seconded

That's a great album

el hombre malo | 30 August 2010 - 9:09pm

It could very well have been your suggestion...

If it was, I thank you!

Tennis!

US Open, I'm glued, as I will be for the next fortnight.

Ironing to The West Wing

Having started a thread here which degenerated pretty fast into Carry On territory, admittedly at my instigation.
One more episode and then a few Eels tracks to put me in the mood for their Brixton concert on Wednesday night. Am I too old to be saying: "Two sleeps to go!"?

A lovely day

My girlfriend has been away for the last few days, so she came round to mine in the morning, then we went round to her place, picked up her daughter, and the three of us spent the afternoon having a long lunch in Zizzi and a browse through the HMV sale.
Now I'm sitting at the PC with a glass of Adnams Gun Hill in front of me and the wonderful new Thea Gilmore album playing. All bank holidays should be as filled with treats as this one has been.

Sneakin' a look

I'm at work right now (at a bank), taking a sneaky look. It's Labor Day here next Monday, the un-official end of summer. I'm off to San Francisco for a little R n R, and to escape the heat and summer storms here in Scottsdale.

I think I'm finished my dissertation

Yeah, I think so. It has to be handed up tomorrow, can't afford to delay it another year. I just need to walk away from the laptop and stop tinkering...

going through the drivel left over from yesterday and wishing that Melbourne had August Bank Holidays...

Spent the day

Glued to ITV4 in the morning.

Drove into Windsor with the family. They mooched and shopped while I sold an old guitar amp to a music shop.

Came back and baked. First a batch of Fairy Cakes (yes, alright...) with my little girl. Then proper manly Scones. Filled with meat and bollocks.

Once they were done and cooling I made a Thai Chicken Curry for dinner. I like being in the kitchen.

Beezer | 30 August 2010 - 10:56pm

I too love the kitchen, I've spent most of the day baking

Made a pizza from scratch in the breadmaker for lunch - salami and artichoke, absolutely fantastic, the best yet. Baked a wholemeal loaf afterwards - five hours later, a well risen, soft interiored, perfectly crisp crust success.

That all sounds

bloody delicious!

0
Beezer | 30 August 2010 - 11:17pm

Thanks, I like the sound of your cooking as well

I think I'd give the scones filled with bollocks a miss mind you.

heshofcheese | 30 August 2010 - 11:28pm

Spent the day

pretending to do things.
Got lots of washing done to appease the at work journo GLW and baked some with the nine-year-old daughter (apple compote, apple & blackberry crumble, Hairy Bikers biscuits and a sponge), made a Chinese-y noodle stir fry for tea and some flat breads.
But mostly was involved in reading Richard Price's Freedomland.
The missus has asked me to go to the doctor cos I'm in the loo so much. Am drinking gallons of water for an excuse to read so voraciously.
She may suspect I'm going through a 'teenage' phase.
Last day off tomorrow - tennis club all day and then working out how to put up the new goals I have bought for the start of the season.
