"Wearing sunglasses indoors? Well we'll try not to judge you"

Did anyone see the buffoon from Glasvegas on Buzzcocks? He refused to remove his cheap raybans and seemed incapable of social interaction in some sort of childish imitation of what he thinks is a rock and roll attitude.

From what I've heard, this performance is fairly representative of his band's music.

Am I wrong - should I investigate further?

lot's of people round here seem to have taken against them

but we saw them in Guidford earlier this year and they we excellent. The have be done down by all the hype and as for wearing sunglasses inside strikes you are going to have the piss taken out of you regardless on Buzzcocks so why not cover up your blooshot eyes!

There should be some debate about them

on a previous thread somewhere...after I saw them on Later I mentioned how awful I found them, I'm all for bands taking influences, can't avoid that - but a wholesale rip-off of the Raveonettes and the Jesus & Mary Chain was taking things to an extreme - even having the standing up drummer.

Didn't like them personally but there were some replies in their defence on these pages.

Mind you, I can't stand Elbow and was surprised by how popular they are amongst the Word Massive so what do I know...!

not aware of the mans music at all

but his appearance on 'Buzzcocks' was nothing less than twatworthy. However, James Corden and Germaine Greer made the show an absolute hoot, so i didn't feel short-changed!

Ditto

I can't imagine that his humourless demeanour has shifted one extra Glasvegas CD. Agree about GG too. Not many people get the better of Amstell but she did.

Can you imagine his self-confidence though?

He is a naturally good looking guy.

He played football at professional standard (Clyde I think).

He left that to play in a band who quickly became lauded as the best new British group.

How old is he - 23? To have that much good fortune so young it's a wonder they fit sunglasses for his head size.

yeah...

...but he's not playing for Celtic or in the Jesus and Mary Chain. I reckon he knows in his heart that he's a mediocre talent at best.

"Creative Accounting?" Wasn't the footballer the younger guy?

The guy in the shades deludedly seems to think he looks like a cross between Strummer and William Reid. Looking at him, probably not far off the same age too.

As a friend....

of mine remarks when he sees somebody wearing sunglasses indoors 'the sun never sets in the land of the cool'!

humphreym | 4 November 2008 - 3:58pm

Well said sir!!!

there have been loads of young rock and rollers throughout history affecting cool by wearing shades. He's a young lad he'll grow out of it. I like their songs, I would say they are more in love with Phil Spector's sound than the Mary Chain or the Ravonettes. They write fairly interesting lyrics too which is more than you can say for the Reid brothers.

Mr. E again

the only permanent fixture of The Sisters Of Mercy (the drum machine has been updated several times) will be 50 next year and he's very rarely seen sans shades

can we please forget about the rose tinted heart shaped ones

James Blast | 4 November 2008 - 5:42pm

mmmm

But Roger McGuinn's tiny oblong ones are surely the coolest!!

Their Album

Whilst not 100% consistent, it's still pretty good.
