Daryl Hall is sixty-one today. At the height of Hall & Oates's success back in the 80s, Rolling Stone put them on the cover. The headline on the story inside was "THE SELF-RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS". Respect.

Daryl Hall
I find it hard to believe that he's 61. I can believe that McCartney is getting on and the same applies for the Stones, but not the youthful Daryl Hall! He's remarkably well preserved (even despite his recent medical problems). I've been to see him in concert twice (once solo and once with the dimunitive Mr. Oates) and he's the consumate showman. Each time there was a new album available and each time they played 2 or 3 tracks from the album and the rest of the show was just hit after hit. The second time I saw H&O in Hammersmith they played a non stop medley for at least two hours. By the end of it I was knackered from dancing and they had the entire audience on their feet (including Vic Reeves who was dancing beside me!)for all but three or four songs. In fact Mark Ellen could pick up a few tips about floor fillers from Daryl!
Doesn't darryl Hall brew his
Doesn't darryl Hall brew his own version of Fullers London pride? he used to live in chiswick and got the taste for it.
Hall and Oates
By coincidence I am on a bit of a Hall and Oates jag at the moment. the Abandoned Luncheonette, Silver Album, Bigger Than Both of Us period is getting heavy (hard disk) rotation. Beautifully executed blue eye soul, which now seems to be entirely forgotten, thanks to their later period as proper Pop Stars. What a shame, it is quality output.
Not forgotten round our way.
Abandoned Luncheonette was played twice right through on a journey to Winchester on Tuesday. Cracking album.
1976 - Oh Camellia
I taped this off the telly the night it was shown. Microphone plugged into radio-cassette player, you remember? My brother came in pissed from the pub halfway through and I'm trying to shut him up without making a noise...classic. The tape played for years in my Mk2 Cortina, me and my mate Des knew every note of Todd Sharp's solo. Went to see them that year at Croydon and have hardly missed a tour since. They made some fantastic music and Daryl is still providing brilliant entertainment via his Live at Daryl's House video podcasts. Forget the later reputation, these 2 could write, play and sing and they still cut it live. Bless you DH for reminding me of Daryl's birthday.
Nick Lowe was 61...
... last Wednesday.
I think Daryl's less than cheery right now..
due to the sudden passing of his Live from Daryl's House musical right hand man T-bone Wouk who succumbed to a heart attack about 4 weeks ago
T-bone was tremendous on the monthly LFDH videos. It won't ever be the same again
Love H&O
and love the Live From Daryl's House stuff I've seen. Ain't this the kinda place you'd wanna hang at and the kind guys you'd wanna hang with?
Check how this cooks. Man, you can almost hear the bbq sizzling and the cold beer slippin' down. And the world's best bar band playin' out back.

R.I.P T-Bone. Rock long Daryl
