Waking up songs

I heard the estimable Dan Le Sac & Scroobius Pip on Lamacq's Radio 1 show last night talking about which song they like to hear first thing in the morning. One of them replied that he has been waking up every day for the past four weeks to the sounds of Radiohead's `15 Steps', which he finds strangely comforting.

Just wondered if any of the Word massive have a regular wake-up record? Unfortunately with a two-year-old in full rampage, mine tends to be the theme song to Dora The Explorer...

I thought music confessions were another thread?

Ahem. I actually like waking up to stuff like Tubular Bells or Songs of Distant Earth by Mike Oldfield....nice long epic stuff. Mixed with a little Nick Drake, Chris Wood, David Gray and Bob Fox - all men and folkie curiously.

However to help my partner get up early I set The Prodigy's Firestarter nice and loud...I was soooo popular all day.

i remember peter kay's funny routine

involving that...visualising 'us' as, say, grandparents and lamenting what the kids in the year 2050 would be listening to.

"put on a bit of Prodigy...that's real music...c'mon son, Play smack me bitch up...yer Nan likes that one"

You'll be surprised to hear...

...that on my iPod I have a playlist called 'Music To Wake Up To' for when I use my iPod as an alarm clock; ie when my wife's away. It goes like this:

Our Prayer/The Beach Boys
Main Title Theme (Billy)/Bob Dylan (from Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid)
Tears Of Rage/The Band
Tangled Up In Blue/Bob Dylan (from The Bootleg Series)
Long Black Limousine/Elvis Presley
Just A Little Lovin' /Shelby Lynne

I'm usually up after the first two.

The riff

AC/DC's Back In Black is the sort of thing I'd be happy to start the day with, but then it's also my wrestling entrance song (what song would you have playing as you made your walk to the ring - apply to boxing, darts, any such sport where you get to walk in).

For those days requiring a more sedate start (and they are becoming more common with age) Carl Orff's `Gassenhauer', as heard on Jarvis Cocker's marvellous edition of `The Trip' cds, would be perfect.

Just remembered

Waking up after a lie in on a Saturday morning by John Peel's Home Truths and Dick Dale's Let's Go Trippin'....that was a nice way to start the day
