After the thrills and spills of the Tour de France, the UK contingent are proving that their performances in le tour was no fluke.2 UK riders in the top 3, and a stunning win for Chris froom yesterday is incredible news. With only a few days left, a win in a grand tour is a real possibility for a UK rider. Shame there wasn't a time trial as I think the UK would have it sewn up. But whatever happens at the weekend and the forthcoming world championships, its been a stunning year for UK cycling.

Froome has been a star.
I really thought Brad had the Red but fair play to Cobo on the Angliru. There are people questioning Sky's tactics with regards to Froome riding for Brad (Robert Millar has chipped in now) but this sort of thing can happen. Brad had a bad day, Froome was stellar and has continued to be. The fact that Brad fell back a bit yesterday but CF was allowed to go on and win the stage is some kind of vindication. Sky would have been slaughtered if they had held Chris back to help Brad when the Red is within his reach. You're right about a time-trial making the difference. It's why I've never liked them within a Grand Tour. The overall winner should always be about the most consistent and bravest not about the guy who didn't win a stage until he blitzed everyone on the time trial by enough to win the whole thing. (Yes, Big Mig, I do mean you!)
Coincidence
I was just watching a re-run of Froome v Cobo from yesterday when this thread appeared. Thrilling stuff. No Brit has ever won GC on one of the big three tours have they? I think I'm right in saying that Cav (points) and R. Millar (mountains) are the only Brits to win in the big tours.
Just finished David Millar's book - Wiggins doesn't come out of it very well, it has to be said.
Been enjoying the Vuelta
It's been fantastic so far, though the live commentator's deadpan style takes some getting used to. Yesterday's finish was thrilling, and I'd never seen an Angliru stage before. It sure does look like a brute, and seeing Wiggins weaving side to side gave an indication of what they were all up against. Would be great to see some British podium finishers!!
