Virtual Charabanc anyone?

millymollymandy's picture

In common with most of the Massive, I'd struggle to get down to London for the Word Reader Awards, but it would be lovely to be part of it and to see/hear what's going on.

So, what about the idea of a Virtual Charabanc, on which we could all hitch a ride to be part of this inaugural event.

Trouble is, I've only got as far as the name - any suggestions what it could involve?

I imagine it to be some sort of techie solution but that could be as simple as a thread (cf the real-time Glasto threads) or a full blown video link/upload your own pics of what you're up to on the night (but someone would need to confiscate Lenny's webcam).

In keeping with the idea of celebrating the talents of the Word Reader community, I do feel it should be something we do for ourselves, without expecting any guiding hand or tech support from our friends at Word Towers.

We're a resourceful, tech-literate (some of you anyway), online community - what can we come up with?

or iChat, surely some kind of hook up could happen?

Q from the Glasgow Massive

Does that mean we should look at a pub with free wifi and meet on 26th instead ?

Now you're talking

three or four satellite meetings around the country, Skype, laptops on the stage in London... sound would be a bugger, but it's do-able with a bit of organisation. With a bit more organisation, non-Londonists could be presented with awards via a tipped-off insider and a live 'throw' from Hepworth.

Anyone fancy taking on a project?

Wow, this really does look possible

That USTREAM site looks too good to be true.

I know we've got a venue booked for a NW Massive do the following Friday, but on our last doodle poll it looked like several of us were available on 26th Nov. Maybe a Chester meet-up if Mr & Mrs Squeezer know of a venue in Chester with free wifi (and a quiet room)?

I'm willing to collaborate with someone in the NW to see if we could have a satellite event, even though hardcore tech isn't my strength.

All Bar One

has free wifi, if my room wasn't such a wreck I'd invite you all over here for a widescreen hi fidelity hook up

Careful with your route planning...

You don't want to get stuck

I will certainly look into it.

The Wi-Fi would be no problem,It's the quiet room that may take a little seeking out.I'll get onto it and see what I can come up with.

A technical question.

I use Mobile Broadband.Would this do? If so finding a quiet spot may be a little easier. Please be gentle,I am a relative novice with all this computery jiggery-pokery.
