When all the spleen venting is over...stick a happy record on
Memories
like the corners of my mind. Don't they all look so young? Young Knives were clearly taking wardrobe tips.
Caravan of hate
The Housemartins were perhaps the ultimate spleen-venting band:
Sexism in the workplace: tick.
The greed of the farming industry: tick.
Bullying property developers: tick.
etc,etc.
Cheer up, lads!
A one-word explanation
Hull.
obvioulsy
more bile than happiness on this blog
oh what the heck
happy and alone
REM & Muppets - Furry Happy Monsters
Quick! Deploy the Feist!
I know it was only up a fortnight ago, but perhaps it should be posted weekly to cheer us all up.
Lovelyfeist
Oh, daily at least, Ian. And why the hell was there nothing like this when I was learning to count? And while we're on the subject of happy, is there anything more joyous than Stevie Wonder on form?
(Sorry, still haven't got the hang....)
Bloody hell it's there!
Or maybe I have... Crikey, it's like magic. So if I leave off the http:uk. will that just insert the clip for me? Answers on a postcard, or maybe in the reply field.
It works automatically
If you use the page URL the video is on, but instead of http://uk.youtube... use http://www.youtube... this embeds the video flawlessly.
If that makes sense.
Thank you Fraser,
I think so. Lets try it shall we?
Erm..
Fraser, did I miss something? Big empty space...
A nice and clean empty space, though
Just select and copy the address of the YouTube page from the address bar in your browser and paste it here, on a separate line of text and it should work (unless you're using Netscape 2.0, perhaps), like this:
(Any excuse will do.)
Archie, nice clip.
Sorry, but I thought I'd try Fraser's tip first, since it didn't require me learning to use my Mac..... Old dogs - despite received wisdom - can learn new tricks, but one this venerable canine has yet to master (although he's heard the term bandied about by the youth) is copy and paste.
Bugger
It was a moment ago. Chairmen of the Board - Give Me just A Little More Time. And I thought I was being so clever...
It looks
Like there's something wrong with the URL itself, nothing wrong with the method you used to post it.
Update: I think you missed a character from the end of the URL, probably. YouTube URLs usually have 11 characters after the = sign, but yours only had 10.
Fraser,
I'll have another go. Fingers crossed....
Fraser,
Waheeeeey!
One more thing, Fraser,
how did you know how many characters I was using? Spooky.
Special Effects

Here's Mr Prophet
Happy Chicks Then and Now
And thanks a million
for the bloody earworm!
Chicks????!!!!
????!!!!
Sorry,
those last two were meant to appear the other way round. It's this cold, I can't think straight.
Chicks?
Not getting all PC on me are you? My girl-friends call themselves happy chicks all the time....whats an earworm?
Yes,
I'm afraid I am.
And an earworm is a tune that gets stuck in your head that you'd rather wasn't there.
Apologies
on both counts then
Quite OK.
And just in case there was any doubt, the earworm was the Middle of the Road track. (Having to live through that stuff in the 70s was bad enough. On the other hand, I've spent most of the last two hours listening to Otis in order to get rid of it, which was great. So maybe I now owe you a [non-sarcastic] vote of thanks.)
Otis Redding? How about the Happy Song
Why, thank you.
Just the thing for this thread. Wish I'd thought of it.
Mr Partridge again ...
As it was Andy Partridge who started things for the prosecution, his 'Stupidly Happy' makes a good case for the defence - it's wonderfully life affirming with joyous couplets such as 'I'm stupidly happy, Everything's fine, I'm stupidly happy, My heart pumping wine' and as a dedication to love they don't come much better than ' All the lights from the cars in the town, Form the strings of a big guitar, I'm a giant who'll play you a tune, For wherever you are'.
