very impressive track from the new arcade fire album

seanioio's picture

Not a band that I would consider myself to be a fan of, but I felt I must share this new song.
A colleague of mine (who is a big AF fan) introduced me to it & I was very pleasantly surprised;

Cheers Amazon

My pre ordered copy arrived today. Cracking album but tails off a bit towards the end. They could have trimmed it back a little.

Arcade Fire. Utter shite as far as I'm concerned. However..

I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Listening to the new stuff was great. It proved I was right all along. Singer bloke still sounds like he's having his knackers fed through a mangle and they clearly wouldn't recognise a melody if it ran up and kicked them up the arse. Poncy time-signatures don't help either.

Now. Setting aside my prejudices, here's a question: Who here likes Midlake? Who likes Arcade Fire? Who likes both? Two groups who do the same sort of thing but in very different ways. I love Midlake but detest Arcade Fire. Do others feel similarly?

Nope -

I love Midlake and like Arcade Fire.

Yep. My thoughts exactly

Love Midlake, their gig at the Cluny in Newcastle was the best I've seen all year. Am at best ambivalent about Arcade Fire, it all seems a bit mannered to me. Tim Smith is also to my ears, a far better singer than Win Butler. Oh, and the Midlake boys are some of the nicest musicians I've ever met whereas haven't the Arcade Fire got a bit of a *difficult* reputation?

I couldn't agrre more...

.. although I'd have probably said total utter shite.

I just don't get them at all, for me the song never starts.

You may have a point

I'm pro Arcade Fire but was disappointed by Midlake when I bought an album.

Lenny, you're talking bollocks old chap

Both very good. I like Midlake more and they were fantastic live. However I dont see how you can say Arcade Fire wouldn't recognise a melody though as their first 2 albums contained loads of them. Don't know about the new one yet because it only arrived this am. The one thing I would say though is the production on their debut was a bit muddy which doesn't help.
