The Venerable Mr R.

Now that the sun has come out I've been on a bit of a reggae hunt.
I happened upon David Rodigan.
Look here:

I couldn't help but smile, his knowledge, his enthusiasm and his love of music puts him head and shoulders above most DJ's. Coupled with middle aged home counties tax inspector appearance.
I couldn't imagine Dermot O'Dreary being this effervescent.
Any other excitable music heads who can hold a candle to the mighty Rodders?

We love him

We just all stood round and watched this clip.

Meet the Rodigans

Is Rodigan a family man? I don't mean in the sense of Aston "Family Man" Barrett (52 kids!), I mean does he have the sort of family (and family life) suggested by his appearance - mock Tudor semi, Volvo, drives the kids to violin lessons - or does he live in a smoke-filled beach shack? Does he hang with the bredren or chair the local Round Table? What's he like offstage and what do his relatives think of him? Not that it matters of course; just curious.

Is there any footage of the other relatively elderly DJ previously featured in the Prisoners of Rock feature in Word? (No, not Steve Lamacq; there was another one, much older.)

You mean DJ Derek?

Fraser Lewry | 2 May 2008 - 6:11pm

Thanks, Fraser.

That's the fella.

If I am allowed a little ambition......

.....but I would love to grow old(er) as gracefully and unexpectedly as these 2 marvellous gents.
If anyone needs a folk-rock/country-rock/jazz/reggae/bluesy world roadshow, I'm your man. Any enterprising radio channels seeking a new presenter for those odd slots where you can play, well more or less anything? What was that song about the DJ who was ousted from such a slot, and locked himself in the studio playing something repeatedly for hours. Not Harry Chapin/WOLD, it's another one. Anyway, that's a vibe I could handle.
Dreams, eh!!

Bit of a guilty pleasure this one. Rex Bob Lowenstein.

That's the one!

Rex Bob! Thanks Leedsboy!!
Rex Bob Retropath, including the sad ending.
In my dreams, that is.
