Vatican 'forgives' John Lennon

A Vatican newspaper has forgiven the late English singer John Lennon for saying four decades ago that The Beatles were more popular than Jesus.

The paper described the remark as "showing off, bragging by a young English working-class musician who had grown up in the age of Elvis Presley and rock and roll and had enjoyed unexpected success".

It could be a bloody long time before they forgive us for Spandau Ballet though...

Vatican broadside

Thanks, Vatican. That'll be a great relief to Lennon.
Here's the previous Pope checking out some breakdancing:

"Christ, you know it ain't easy"

Though taken straight form Wiki this has always been my understanding of the situation .

"In practical terms, it may be necessary for the offender to offer some form of acknowledgment, apology, and/or restitution, or even just ask for forgiveness, in order for the wronged person to believe they are able to forgive."

Did he make this request ?

A quick Google

reveals that Catholic church attendances in England have declined by 49% in the last twenty years, whereas the Beatles are still selling millions of albums worldwide each year.

So were he still with us I'm sure Lennon would feel that he doesn't really need the Vatican's forgiveness as he was right in '66 and he's still right now.
