Entertainment For Lively Minds
Unlikely career development?
Posted by Indus on 1 August 2008 - 7:42pm.
Tommy Ramone, drummer and last surviving original Ramone, has grown a beard and plays bluegrass mandolin in an old timey duo. Did anyone else know this? http://www.myspace.com/unclemonk
I seem to remember seeing Ritchie Blackmore on the telly playing the lute and dressed as a wizard, but I may have eaten too much cheese late at night.
Any other unlikely late career shifts that have passed me by?

I think you're referring to Blackmore's Night...
However this should not come as a surprise from a man whose idea of 'in flight entertainment' in the early days of Deep Purple consisted of substituting the centre pages of the in flight magazine with pages taken from an animal porno mag. Little old lady reaches for said magazine, gets to the centre pages and shrieks at human / horse interface. Blackmore pisses himself.
So lutes and wizard costumes? Not so strange...
Rainbow
was one of my first gigs and I really loved Blackmore's playing. Why on Earth he's wasting his time in Blackmore's Night I have no idea.
