Unbelievers, you think you know The Fall?

Albert Edward's picture

Have a look at this and get back to me.

NOOOO! Not another Fall thread......

I quite like the sound of the electric razor at the start and the hippo getting out of a lake noises, but the song itself sounds just like the The Fall.

Simon Ford | 6 May 2010 - 4:39pm

Thats not The Fall.......

It's Queens of The Stone Age with Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins on guest vocals.

Hot Cider | 6 May 2010 - 4:41pm

Yes!

And who in their right mind wouldn't want to hear that?

0
Albert Edward | 6 May 2010 - 4:47pm

And?

You make it sound like a bad thing. I wonder if David Hepworth will be immortalised in song a la Ben Marshall?

0
Spartacus Mills | 6 May 2010 - 4:49pm

A new way of recording! A chain round the neck!

Great video for a great track from a great album. I think most of their knockers on here are just jealous that despite looking like a tramp shouting at pigeons / muttering on the bus / licking cider off a toilet floor...Mark E. Smith is extremely succesful with ver laydeez.

Spartacus Mills | 6 May 2010 - 4:47pm

Love the Fall..

Think they've got a new album out. I read a review in Uncut.Quite in depth it were.

2
Doug B | 6 May 2010 - 4:51pm

The director

is the guy or guys (thirtytwo) who did No Distance Left to Run.

0
Albert Edward | 6 May 2010 - 4:52pm

The intro sounds like

the intro to Girl's Aloud's Biology being played through an old radio.

0
jamesieboy37 | 6 May 2010 - 4:53pm

I preferred Sade's version

.

4
Uncle Monty | 6 May 2010 - 4:59pm

It the Fall-ah

Mr Hepworth got it wrong-ah..i want to hear the sound of rantings in bus stations etc..it is the Fall-ah..on Boundary Park wall-ah..graffiti cider drinking bawl-ah..it is the Fall-ah...Brilliant!!

0
Bingham | 6 May 2010 - 5:11pm

I actually

think Mark E Smith is Richard Madeley when he's totally trolleyed after a 2 day bender.

Never in the same room etc...

0
Ahh_Bisto | 6 May 2010 - 5:05pm

Ho

and furthermore

Hum.

0
illuminatus | 6 May 2010 - 5:14pm

I'd be interested

to know if anyone who is neutral about The Fall sees/hears this and is convinced as to their/his greatness, or in the other direction. I don't mean confirming the zealots of either stripe in their views.

0
Jitling | 6 May 2010 - 5:19pm

No, I'm not

I have no strong opinion one way or the other. Quite like stuff like Hit The North, The Chiselers. Heard other stuff but didn't really engage me.
As I said: ho, and indeed, hum in this case.

0
illuminatus | 6 May 2010 - 5:23pm

I've heard I think 3 Fall songs before this

One was on a Danny Baker podcast - great song. Really liked it this one too. Direct me to their best album please.

0
James Helford | 6 May 2010 - 7:25pm

Hardcore fans may disagree

but I think if you're after a starting point the '50,000 Fall Fans Can't be Wrong' compilation is a great place to start.

0
Coupey | 6 May 2010 - 7:29pm

agreed

0
badartdog | 6 May 2010 - 7:43pm

That was my starting

That was my starting point.

Top Tip: Start with Disc 2. Ease yourself in gently.

0
Spartacus Mills | 6 May 2010 - 8:09pm

Yup... the easiest way in by far.

Personally, I'd then got for the early stuff - Live At The Witch Trials, Hex Enduction Hour etc.

0
stimpy | 6 May 2010 - 8:34pm

The Fall and Danny Baker

What better excuse do I need to post this?

0
Albert Edward | 6 May 2010 - 10:19pm

According to this, Danny gave...

the Fall and Shalamar to the world.

This is the man I'd want for PM.

Resting Place | 7 May 2010 - 10:04am

Thankee Albert!

what is the tune Dan played, I loved it?

0
James Blast | 7 May 2010 - 3:48pm

My pleasure

that was Blindness..

0
Albert Edward | 7 May 2010 - 3:51pm

I think you heard Blindness

Off of Fall Heads Roll and this wonderful Later appearance.

0
fedoraboy | 6 May 2010 - 11:51pm

Is this as glam as Mark E Smith gets?!

Love it. Proper dirty bass and guitar sound. I don't hear much shouting - just mildly drunken slurring. But what's with the Alvin Stardust glove?

0
tiggerlion | 7 May 2010 - 4:37pm

Oops!

sorry fedora, I hadn't got round to your clip yet and thankee for that too :D

0
James Blast | 7 May 2010 - 5:08pm

I had never heard

of your "The Fall Group' until today.
After seeing and hearing this I will most certainly going to WH Smith on my high street and will be buying all their back catalogue. Can anyone recommend a definitive Fall Group CD for me to hear?

Diamonds and dungheaps..

those two words always spring to mind whenever The Fall crop up. That's a diamond.

0
Prestonia | 6 May 2010 - 5:54pm

Albert god loves a trier!

keep up the good work!

1
Chris G | 6 May 2010 - 5:58pm

I lasted 39 seconds...

which is longer than I can normally bear. Maybe they're growing on me...

1
Patrick Crowther | 6 May 2010 - 7:33pm

Yeah, good man Albert

The new album is a cracker, and for me the last track "Weather Report 2" is the real standout.

"You gave me the best years of my life".

Beautiful.

0
Resting Place | 6 May 2010 - 7:49pm

Are you sure it isn't...

"beers"?

0
Patrick Crowther | 6 May 2010 - 7:52pm

Ooh you little scamp!

Why that Mark E Smith has penned many tender ditties, doncha know.

I'd suggest Spotify for "Edinburgh Man" from the Shift Work album for starters.

0
Resting Place | 6 May 2010 - 8:26pm

After the debate - better give it a go

I don't like it. I listened for the whole four minutes but found it quite excruciating.

0
Fazackerly | 6 May 2010 - 9:56pm

Albert...thanks for posting that

I listened to it with an open mind. I'm not sure I'd heard anything else by The Fall prior to this and, sorry to say, I didn't find anything that made me want to go much further with them.

However, I'm glad I gave it a rattle, and glad you put it my way!

0
ivan | 6 May 2010 - 11:30pm

Tried...

...Failed. I think it was the off-key stylophone that killed it for me.

0
nicktf | 7 May 2010 - 6:44am

wow

That's the most passionate, thrilling, innovative, beautiful, intelligent, catchy and downright erotic piece of music I've ever heard.

Can we stop now?

1
Jon Whitney | 7 May 2010 - 9:12am

well I'm off to see em in London tonite

Its only the second time so I'm no hardcore fan. And I only went the first time in 2005 cos it was the last gig at the Hammersmith Palais.

Their sets are stretching to almost an hour at the moment so hopefully time for drinkies afterwards

I expect to spot Stewart Lee and Frank Skinner in a slightly roomy Shepherds Bush Empire

0
DogFacedBoy | 7 May 2010 - 2:24pm

And possibly

Jeremy Vine if he manages a post Election power snooze first.

0
Resting Place | 7 May 2010 - 3:25pm

He'd better not

after his bloody behaviour last nite. Shame that he's a Costello fan too

0
DogFacedBoy | 7 May 2010 - 3:37pm

My favourite Fall songs are

Pontiac Pilate Memo

It's All Lies Now Never Mind

Hectic Plan Begins

Shouter at the Goldust

Freebie Unction Offer

Devizing Devil Flash Fry

They are simultanoeusly uplifting and enervating, questing yet affirmative, manifest yet protean, alert yet somnambulistic, melodic yet discordant.

I commend them to you

0
Sheev | 7 May 2010 - 2:42pm

SBE comedian spotting

Stewart Lee
Frank Skinner
Peter Serafoniwicz
Graham Linehan (Father Ted\It Crowd writer)

Band really on it, shouty man wandering about fiddling with amps, moving mics about and disappearing offstage for a while. always different, always the same - Its a Fall gig!

Mark E Smith quote from the gig - "The best version of Weather Report I have heard in my entire life"

Y.F.O.C
Over! Over!
Cowboy George
Bury
I've Been Duped
Slippy Floor
Chino
Wolf Kidulte Man
Weather Report
Hot Cake
Funnel Of Love
Reformation
Theme From Sparta FC

"English Chelsea fan
This is your last game
We're not Galatasary
We're Sparta F.C."

Sounds like my grandfather

yelling at the next door neighbours when they play music too loud.
