Intelligent Life On Planet Rock
Two moustaches, no beards

The new mag's arrived, looking good, and let me be the first boring pedant to spot an out-of-date remark about Michael Jackson - page 32, about three quarters of the way through the good kicking being doled out to Jo Whiley by Rob Fitzpatrick

So a Wilf Lunn
Mr Pringle front cover I can't wait!
Mind just landed on the mat
And the cover picture made me think (apart from the fact that there must be millions of "Beatles with beards" pics that could have been used) about when was the Beatles "coolest" look.
There's a large picture in HMV Liverpool which looks around Hard Days Night era, of them walking down the street wearing mod-type suits and raincoats, laughing and joking and it always makes me think how effortlessly cool they were. In contrast, the new Word cover photo (Sgt Pepper era) makes me realise that absolutely no-one looks cool in a kaftan, whatever BA Robertson once claimed

Beatles For Sale
Even Ringo looks good.
It's 1972, this photo is 8 years old,
and somewhere in Manchester, young Noel decides he likes the Beatles' haircuts, and wonders if he can get the Beatles Complete Songbook for Christmas when he gets older...
If I were a young girl...
(please stay with me on this) I would have fallen in love with all of them immediately after having seen this image. The best Beatles photograph bar none.
Uruguay
heheheheh
that's my favourite Beatles picture of the lot
It's almost as if you can see the world at their feet, even if they can't!
Wit?
No CD was present in my "Special Edition" copy.
Bursts into tears.
CD was in mine so it must be a personal thing
:-)
CD
No CD in mine either...
CD

About 4pm on 25/6/09
Without sounding crass, you could almost time when the edition went to press as there's an obit for Stephen Wells, but none for Farrah or Jackson.
Great cover...
Noooooooooooooooo....
About to set off on holiday and the postie hasn't been down my street yet. Still at least I'll have something to look forward to on my return from the sunshine!
That reminds me of one of
That reminds me of one of the lost joys of my childhood - coming home from holiday and picking up all the copies of 2000AD the newsagent had been saving for me while I was away.
I see the writing on the cover has returned
I thought the cover looked much better with just the The Word logo.
Oooooh, it's here! It's here!
Can't wait to get off home; it'll be on the mat! Woo Hoo!
Just keeping my league position up
you understand!
Janeane Garofalo
MMMMMMMm.
I love everything about her.
Mostly her brain [obv]
MMMMMMMm.
Of course.
Would have ben good to see her on the cover! (Too many boys every month!!)
The Bowler
She was great as 'The Bowler' in Mystery Men.
Although PMS Avenger had the funnier M.O. "I only work 4 days a month. Anybody have a problem with that? "
Greg Kinnear was in dat too.
Best issue evah
Thanks lads *coughs*. Even a few brief comments from Stackridge. I think I've got a speck of dust in my eye...
Suggested reading for David Hepworth...
On the back of your op-ed piece this month, you might find this interesting:

the beatles are on the cover?
cool. I'm too skint to buy it this month anyway. will still do the tesco shelf shuffle thingy for you though.
The Beatles Are On The Cover?
And George Harrison and John Lennon both featured on seperate covers in the last 12months.
Must be a marketing research thing.
For unknown reasons the Dr. Strangely Strange retrospective...
was pulled at the last minute. The Beatles were seen as an adequate replacement.
John Byrne! Janeane Garofalo!
Well done you lovely people!
The Beatles?
Who are they?
Unfortunate news headlines
I know it's only a sidebar, but that bit reminded me of last weeks Ipswich Advertiser article which heralded the news that Suffolk lads serving in Afghanistan were being sent free copies of a recent book about the local football team. The title? "Ipswich 'til I Die".
and meanwhile in a remote part of the west of Ireland...
You've been 'shopped
