Treasure Island

Anyone else watch it? I really enjoyed it. Good cast, good script but most all, belting yarn.

up to a point

I know novels are open to interpretation but they made to many changes for my liking.
They've made Dr Livesey into a cowardly character, the Squire into a hard nosed nasty piece of work. I don't recall him wanting to evict Jim's mother. Quite the opposite in fact he was a bumbling, gossiping man who couldn't keep a secret and it was Livesley that had to reprimand him about silence.
Jim was supposed to know about Silver having been warned to look for a one legged seaman by Billy Bones.
After overhearing the mutiny while in the apple barrel he immediately told Smollet, Trelawney and Livesley and when Silver and his men went ashore at the island they surprised the remaining mutineers not the other way round. There were just to many changes to make it great.
Yes it was a lavish production but I'm glad I recorded it as adverts every 10 minutes got on my wick! Thanks for fast forward.

If there's one book that doesn't need a film,

it's surely Treasure Island. It's positively cinematic from page one, and my absolute favourite way to spend a long afternoon, as there's no stopping once I've started.

Well what the Hell was that about?

Further to above why did they need to change the ending so radically?
The death of Squire Trewlaney, Ben Gunn staying on the island instead of leaving with the rest and being the one helping Silver escape instead of Jim.
The last hour was a travesty of a great book.
