Torres Bounce
Dear Torres
I completely missed your post on the Cheryl Code thread re. apologising for being a bit snippy and Citizen Smithish. I genuinely appreciate it now that, today, I've read it. I too would like to apologise to for having a swipe and dig at you in return. A lot of my posts are extremely tongue in cheek, and this instance it obviously led to a collosal misunderstanding bewtween us. I am a genuine egalatarian by nature, but my sense of humour doesn't always reflect the said tongue in cheek. I suppose that it's easy to assume that people always know where your are coming from, but it isn't always the case.
Anyway, I genuinely hope that you have had a very good Christmas so far, and that it continues as such for next year. I hope this misundersatnding between us can now be forgotten. Love and Peace.
ps: Citizen Smith's ok by me. He was a severe HJH fan, I seem to recall.
pps: the C stands for Corn-Fed. I'm very free range in a don't frighten the horses kind of way. ;-)

I think that it's lovely
that the people of this parish take the time out to apologise to each other if things have gone unintentionally awry. From what I've seen of Torres, I'm sure he's going to respond in kind to you Robert - and I'd just like to applaud you. It takes a big man indeed to say 'I'm sorry,' and it's always a good place to start.. Have a good one.
does that mean you're staying Bert?
I know what you mean about humour not translating on the internets, I too like to think I'm egalitarian and that my tongue is firmly in my cheek, it doesn't always come across
the special thing about The Word forum is the way topics take a lefthand path, just look at the End of Term Quiz, that seems to have been hijacked by some old progressive hippies into Moorcock p'shaw!
the best buzz is when you're able to contribute, stick around man
Really,
is there much of an interest in freak-psych-prog-fusion-kraut-barbeshop-bepop these days
I think there is
In the Cope household, at least.
Thanks Robert
Sorry for being a git and kick-starting all this nonsense. I'm chuffed you'll be sticking around and look forward to your postings in the New Year.
Thanks.
I should stop being such a touchy bastard . And you're not a git, and I'm not an Arse Biscuit.
James.....
And what is wrong with being a progressive old hippy?
I resemble that remark!
AND I can remember going to the Electric Gardens in Glasgow (Tho' I'll be buggered if I can remember where it was....saw Wishbone Ash there supported by Glencoe, the majority of whom went onto play with Ian Drury)
So there.
Space Ritual
here we come !
I think you'll find
I was one of the main offenders on that 'lefthand path'
we must meet up someday Geacher old man and compare battle scars, even 'tho I was too young for the Electric Gardens - didn't it mutate into Night Moves?
James..
Absolutely no idea... was it not up the top of Sauchiehall street somewhere?
Battle scars?
Jings
In one and a bit years at GU, i saw Yes, The Who, W.Ash, Groundhogs, Slade, Mott The H (with Queen supporting!), Teargas, Northwind, String Drivin' Thing, the Sleaze Band, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Soho Orange (crap band, great name)Roxy Music, Stone The Crows, Taste, Peter Greens Fleetwood Mac, Family, Van der Graaf Generator, Chicken Shack, Osibisa (good!!) etc etc
No wonder I flunked the exams!
oor paths huv crossed
nae doot man
I can tick aff: The Yes, Who, MTH, Roxy and VdGG from yer list and can add: Hawkwind, Nazerath, Man, Camel and Utopia
how's that?
and I think you had an education to be proud of, bit of paper or not
The Garage
is now the venue which once was the Electric Gardens and was the Mayfair in the interim. That's a fine buncha bands you seen back then ol' 53! If you still got all your faculties, you checkout the likes of The Hold Steady, My Morning Jacket, Filthy Dukes, Twin Atlantic (they're Scottish and they're coming!) and Pendulum. You take care now. à bientôt.
saw many at The Garage
a guid few at The Mayfair - Orange Juice, Fields of the Nephilim and Paradise Lost come quickly to mind
my most fave ever gig, was Type O Negative but by then it was The Garage
But that name
Torres Bounce. It conjures up the world's greatest footballer charging down the wing, minus the necessary, er, ball control device.
I shall need more eggnog to stave off the nightmares tonight.
The Torres Bounce...
...is actually a chant sung at Anfield in honour of said blonde footballing bombshell.
I was stuck for a decent username and that's all I could think of.
I HAD wondered
Still, he IS the greatest thing to hit the Anfield turf in many a year...Here's hoping we have a good FA cup run at least.
No,
next year is definitely your year (cont. p94)
I know this site
avoids emoticons and with some justification in the wrong hands and overused they are very annoying. However without our faces to portray the emotion of what we are saying misunderstandings can happen. Is it worth considering a few emoticons to try and avoid further Archie/Middlerabbit or RobertC/Torres Bounce kerfuffles? :o)
absolutely
old bean, I find them invaluable
inserts nowt and waits to see response
Ditto
Not Bad!
party on dude
Let this be a lesson?
It is admirable to 'fess up and make reparations when we've messed up, so good on you Robert. At the same time, I confess when I first saw this post my initial thought (and this is not personal) was "you know, I really don't give a toss." You started one thread to say you're going, then another, one of whose effects was to announce that you're not going. As someone pointed out in your going away thread, most of us would cause barely a ripple if we took our opinions elsewhere; and that's as it should be, as far as I can see.
Anyway, if I ever announce my departure from this blog, bring on the flames!
peace and love
And this is why the Word's blog empire will always have the edge. Because, even when things can get a bit heated, we still can still chill, apologise and go back to discussing Yes flute solos or the greatest ever Hawkwing lyric or the worst gig ever attended or the B-sides of Richard Thompson. It really does takes all sorts.
Good on you MrC and Mr Bounce. Thanks for bringing back the amiable befuddlement that makes this place a bit like my mind. Confused, a little bit pre-emptively middle-aged and geeky. Honestly, what more could a meles regus ask for?
