Top Gear episode 3, current series

just like to point out that clarkson's review of the bentley brooklands (basic model nearly £240k) is soundtracked by 'wake up' by rage against the machine ... did he know? was someone on the production team having a laugh? ...

Wildly inappropriate musical choices

are always good for a laugh. A few years back, American Express used "Semi-Charmed Life" as a theme for TV ads, no-one from the advertising agency being aware that the song is about folks running around out of their minds on Crystal Meth. Great association for a respected financial services group.

Not sure how many countries saw these campaigns, but in this part of the world, two more wonderful examples, both car companies. Luxury models of impressive vehicles in slick commercials using:
"There She Goes"; a series of ads that lasted until the papers starting printing the story that the song is about heroin.

"You Get What You Give" by New Radicals also made an appearance in a car ad, with all the bits about smashing up Mercedes and rants at capitalism neatly being edited out. Another campaign that didn't last...

Are people at ad agencies being wonderfully subversive or just plain thick?

You need to understand the process

The people who have the idea - the creative team at the advertising agency - want a certain song. The rights turn out to be too expensive. So they try another. It's not too expensive but it turns out that the client hates it. So they try another. It's not too expensive and the client loves it, but they hate it. And that's your ad.

I can't stand Top Gear

Can't we rustle up a fund to have these people chased by rabid dogs?

Include me out

Best programme on television.

I'm a fully-paid up environmentalist...

...but I love the show. It's one of the most entertaining things on telly right now. Word got it right when it said that the cars are practically irrelevant. Ignore the idiocy and enjoy the, erm idiocy.

I beg your pardon...
